Stop Food Waste Day: Possibly A Surprising Perspective from Bio Collectors It might seem counterintuitive—why would a company dedicated to processing and collecting food waste advocate for reducing it? Even though we specialise in anaerobic digestion (AD) and food waste collection, our ultimate goal is a sustainable future, which starts with reducing waste. In the UK, a staggering 6.4 million tonnes of food are thrown away each year, with 60-70% of this waste coming from our homes. The capacity of the UK market to process this waste through AD is simply not enough to handle the volume. The waste hierarchy—reduce, reuse, recycle—guides us for a reason. We must prioritise reducing our waste wherever possible. When excess remains, redistribution to those in need is a crucial next step. Only after these avenues have been exhausted should recycling through AD come into play. At Bio Collectors, we’re proud of our role in recycling what remains into energy and bio fertiliser. But let's remember, every bit of food waste prevented is a step towards a healthier planet. This Stop Food Waste Day, let's commit to cutting down our waste footprint. Together, we can make a difference! To see what we do watch the video below! ♻️💚 Let’s cherish our resources, redistribute excess, and recycle what’s left with the best processes available. #StopFoodWasteDay #Sustainability #WasteNotWantNot #BioCollectors

About us
Bio Collectors collect and recycle food waste using its own vehicles and Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant based in Mitcham, London. We process up to than 100,000 tonnes of the capital's food waste and operate the first biomethane plant in London that is capable of injecting "green" gas into the national gas grid. Our award-winning fleet of CNG collection vehicles service Greater London 6 days a week and are powered using the very biogas we create from the food waste itself, creating a perfect example of a circular economy in action and significantly reducing our environmental impact as a business. Additionally, we also make a digestate that is used as a natural fertiliser in agriculture and is transported to local farmland around the Surrey area.

When it comes to a buffet, should we be charged for 'excess leftovers'? As soon as they go on your plate, if they are not finished, they become waste and end up in the bin. It's not unusual to go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant and have eyes bigger than your belly, but, would you accept a fine if you had a lot of food leftover? https://lnkd.in/eUJ2Bq4F

Starting a service with Bio Collectors couldn’t be easier. The first thing you need to do is contact us so we can ask you some basic questions about what services you require and to ensure we can safely access your site to collect the waste. Depending on the service type, this will often involve a site visit where a member of the Bio Collectors team will check the site’s suitability and discuss the best service for your specific type of food and anticipated volume. If you’re a brand new customer to Bio Collectors, you will also be sent our online credit application form for completion.
