For the past year, Nir has been an invaluable advisor to Biographica, supporting us on early collaborations with some of the world’s leading seed companies and helping develop our product and commercial strategy. We're extremely excited that he has decided to join us full time. Nir brings over a decade of international experience in R&D, product and management within the biotech, medtech and agtech sectors. He has taken several companies from concept to commercial product, invested in deep tech companies, and most recently led product as CPO of Evogene, a public company using computational biology to revolutionalise product discovery in the life sciences. We're very lucky to have two incredibly talented new hires join the team over the past few weeks. Introducing Felix Homma and Victoria Auyeung! Felix joins us as a principal bioinformatician after completing his computational biology PhD and postdoctoral research at University of Oxford, specialising in plant-pathogen interactions. Victoria joins us as a computational biologist after spending three years as a postdoctoral research scientist at Astra Zeneca and completing her PhD at University of Cambridge. Welcome onboard!

🌱 Recent Developments at Biographica - Advancing ML in Crop Improvement Last month, we had the fantastic opportunity to present at Crop Innovation and Business in Gent, sharing some of our recent breakthroughs in ML-driven crop improvement. Our mission? To harness ML for the genetic design of next-generation food & farming solutions that are more productive, resilient & sustainable. Our team has developed state-of-the-art models that can predict any plant protein function directly from sequence with unparalleled accuracy, outperforming orthology-based methods such as BLAST by more than 328%! 🎯 Novel Target Discovery. This leap in predictive capability allows us to unearth a vast array of novel candidates with high confidence. An example is the protein ABR1 (A0A178UFQ7), for which we predicted a novel role in drought resistance which was later validated by findings from 2 independent 2023 publications. 🌽 Empowering Seed & Trait R&D. Our models provide unprecedented insights into the biological mechanisms of targets. 🎉 A belated welcome to our newest team members! 🎉 We're thrilled to announce the addition of three exceptional talents to the Biographica team: Guy Aglionby, Paride Antinucci and Dennis Schwartz. Their expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Graph Machine Learning (ML), and Data Engineering is instrumental in advancing our mission: to uncover the genes responsible for more productive, sustainable, and climate-resilient crops. 📕 With a PhD in NLP from Cambridge, and multiple publications on knowledge graph design and graph ML for NLP, Guy is pioneering integration of literature into our knowledge graphs to enhance our gene discovery processes. 📈 Paride has a multidisciplinary background in molecular biology and computational neuroscience (PhD, King’s College London; Postdoc, UCL), as well as ML research for drug target discovery. He's now applying this expertise to design graph-based methods for target discovery in plants. 💽 Dennis has a wealth of experience as a data engineer and bioinformatician, with 7+ years in biotech startups and an MSc in bioinformatics from TU Munich. At Biographica, he leads development of robust, efficient and scalable data infrastructure. In just two months, Guy, Dennis and Paride have had a huge impact: enhancing our protein analytics, literature ingestion pipelines, and overall data and codebase efficiency.
