October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This disease is one of the most common cancers in the world, with over 5,000 people being diagnosed every month. Patients with breast cancer are more than a statistic; they are a family member, a friend, a co-worker, and are more than their diagnosis. In our most recent episode of The Patient Voice Podcast, we spoke with breast cancer survivor Maimah Karmo, who was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) in 2006 and went on to become a global leader in women's health. You can listen here to Maimah as she discusses the significance of knowing how to check your breasts regularly, citing her mother's guidance as the key to saving her life. Episode 2 of the Bionical Emas podcast is available now! ‘The Patient Voice’ brings together stakeholders from across the clinical development space – from industry experts, patient advocacy organizations, and healthcare professionals to patients, families, and caregivers – as they share their experiences and insights. Discussing barriers and challenges, solutions, and strategies, we explore how patient voices can be embedded in all stages of the ever-evolving clinical development process. Episode 2 explores the myriad of ways in which patients’ personal experiences, perspectives, and preferences can provide an informed voice for access to medicines. We hear from Maimah Karmo and Sabina Kineen, who share how their experiences as patients led them to the work they both do now, advocating for and empowering other patients. Let us know your thoughts by sending your feedback to thepatientvoice@bionicalemas.com. Listen via our website bionicalemas.com or access the YouTube video below.
