A large multi-site theme park prioritizes the safety of its visitors and staff by implementing a reliable and effective lightning warning system. Recognizing the frequency of lightning during peak season and the importance of maintaining park operations, the park has adopted a solution that provides accurate alerts without unnecessary disruptions. The Challenge: The theme park needed a trustworthy lightning warning system capable of reaching thousands of individuals across multiple sites. Previous systems with false alarms had eroded trust from staff and hindered effective safety measures. The Solution: The BTD-200 lightning detection system, known for its reliability and accuracy, has been installed on the roof of a centrally located management building. The system's direction finder enables the tracking of incoming storms, while its high sensitivity provides advanced warnings for overhead lightning threats within a 9km radius. Key Features & Benefits: Reliable Alerts: The BTD-200 minimizes false alarms, ensuring warnings are issued only when lightning poses a genuine threat, either within 16km or overhead. Networked Communication: The Lightning Works software interface provides real-time warnings on five networked PCs across the park, ensuring key staff members receive timely alerts. Proactive Management: The system allows park managers to track storm paths, enabling proactive decision-making regarding park operations and visitor safety. Enhanced Safety: By providing accurate and timely warnings, the system empowers staff to take appropriate actions, such as issuing public warnings or temporarily closing attractions, to protect visitors and employees. The National Stadium Bukit Jalil, the largest stadium complex in Malaysia, prioritizes the safety of its players and spectators amidst the country's high lightning activity. With nine football fields spread across a vast area, the stadium requires a sophisticated lightning detection and warning system to ensure the safety of everyone present. The Challenge: Malaysia experiences frequent lightning strikes, especially during the inter-monsoon periods. Protecting the large area of the stadium complex and its occupants from potential lightning hazards is a critical concern. The Solution: The BTD-200 Lightning Detection and Warning System, a comprehensive and reliable solution, has been installed on the rooftop of the neighbouring eight-story athlete apartment building. This strategic placement ensures optimal coverage of the stadium complex and a large part of the capital city, extending from Rawang in the north to Nilai in the south. Key Features & Benefits: Real-time Detection: The BTD-200 continuously monitors the local atmosphere for lightning activity within a 35km radius, providing real-time alerts for prompt action. Tiered Warning System: The system's automatic alarm triggers are based on the proximity of detected lightning: Warning at 35km Alert at 9km Siren Activation: The system activates a tsunami siren alongside visual alerts to ensure widespread awareness and prompt evacuation if necessary. Enhanced Safety: By providing timely warnings and activating the siren, the system enables players, spectators, and staff to evacuate the area safely and efficiently in the event of lightning threats. BTD-300 Achieves Longest Continuous Record of 100 Hz Atmospheric Electrostatic Measurements in the World! This week marks 10 years since we installed the BTD-300 Thunderstorm Detector on to Biral's Managing Director's roof, and it has operated flawlessly without any maintenance (not recommended but a testament to its durability!). Here’s a quick snapshot of its impressive performance over the last decade: - 95 billion individual current measurements - 160 million fully processed and analysed observations - 3,000 lightning flashes within 20 km - 1,300 overhead cumulonimbus clouds detected (these are the clouds that produce heavy showers and thunderstorms) - 140 thunderstorms within 20 km - 35 hours of strongly electrified rainfall - 5 hours of strongly ionised airflow from overhead thunderstorms - Data from this detector has contributed to 2 published research articles - Holds the longest continuous record of 100 Hz atmospheric electrostatic measurements in the world This milestone highlights the exceptional reliability and performance of the BTD-300 – a true game-changer in thunderstorm detection. https://buff.ly/4eNUTwz #ThunderstormTech #WeatherPrediction #lightningwarning #BTD #OperationalSafety #sensors #Biral #BRD-300
