👋 Have you met our wonderful trustees? Last week, we had an inspiring trustee away day—full of learning, connection, and big ideas for the future of Birthrights! 💡✨ A huge thank you to Alex Cole-Hamilton for facilitating with a focus on governing with integrity, and to our co-founder Elizabeth Prochaska for kicking things off. It was a pleasure to gather in person and reflect on how we can continue to make a difference by working collectively to champion human rights in maternity care. ‼️Before you give your consent for any care or procedure, healthcare professionals must offer information about what will happen to you, and the risks and benefits to you. It is not enough to give you a leaflet or a link to a website, especially if you find it hard to read. ✅Healthcare professionals should listen to you and find out what matters to you. They should share as much information as they can to help you make your own 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 about your body and your maternity care. 🧠When discussing your care with your healthcare professionals, you can use the 𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡 framework to help you decide what you want to do. To learn more about your rights around consent throughout pregnancy and childbirth, you can access and download our human rights factsheet on 'Consent: the key facts' and other topics for 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 by going to: bit.ly/birthfactsheets. [Image description: Graphic with the word 'brain' as an acronym and text that reads: Informed Consent - the BRAIN framework: B - – What are the Benefits? R – What are the Risks?
