🌍 The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) successfully hosted the Technology Information Sessions 2024 (TIS2024), an annual event designed to support climate negotiators in their preparations for COP. Since 2021, these sessions have provided independent, cutting-edge insights into emerging digital technologies such as Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), AI, IoT, and Big Data, with a focus on their application in climate policy. This year, TIS2024 welcomed live participants from over 30 countries across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and African regions plus many 60+ countries having subscribed to the recording productions. Through BCI’s exclusive COPlandia case study, we demonstrated how these emerging technologies can be applied in real-world climate initiatives, ensuring the discussions were both practical and forward-looking. Here are three key takeaways from the sessions: 1) #Blockchain platforms can verify carbon credits traded under the Paris Agreement’s Article 6. Smart contracts automate trades based on verified emission reductions. 2) IoT networks in coastal areas can monitor sea-level rise and feed data into AI systems to predict flood risks. Blockchain secures this data, enabling proactive measures by governments and communities. 3) IoT and blockchain ensure transparency and efficiency in resource allocation for agriculture and infrastructure. IoT sensors track water and energy usage, with blockchain providing accountability through secure data storage. We would like to extend our gratitude to all participants, our Director General, Alastair Marke, and the Executive Committee for their tireless efforts in making TIS2024 a success. 💡 #ClimateTech #AIForClimate #ISOStandards #SustainabilityStandards #COP29 #ClimateAction #GreenTechnology #DLTForClimate #ClimateFinance #ClimateSolutions #blockchaintechnology #evolvingtechnologies

BCI is the architect of a sustainable future, leveraging DLT & Blockchain technology to propel climate actions.
About us
Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is a not-for-profit entity combining the functions of a think-and-do tank, an advocacy group, and a chamber of commerce. Blockchain & Climate Institute provides a ‘super-connector’ platform for policy-makers, corporate executives and blockchain innovators to experiment and adopt the most viable concepts in an enabling environment. Our mission is to raise awareness among the international climate change policy community of the tremendous potential of Blockchain technology to considerably enhance climate actions. Our vision is the extensive deployment of blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Internet of Things (IoT) in state and non-state climate sustainability actions. Blockchain technology is increasingly recognized as one of the most enabling technologies to facilitate the implementation of the Paris Agreement and beyond. It represents an enormous challenge for global climate governance stakeholders, including state governments, international climate funds, development finance institutions, multinational corporations, technology innovators and relevant entrepreneurs across sectors, to engage in this paradigm shift in incubation. Stakeholders across different spectra of the international community seek an avenue or a common platform for harnessing the full potentials of this revolutionizing technology. The world needs an organisation of experts with solid knowledge on Blockchain and climate change to engage stakeholders in the current climate governance systems by curating and mainstreaming some of the most innovative yet administratively feasible use cases or solutions.

Our volunteers got together on 15 June for the first “Spotlight & Social”, a virtual townhall, in 2024. Director Generale Alastair Marke kicked off the meeting by providing some important updates from recent organisational development and his trips to #Spain and #Germany. In this event, we also welcomed new joiners to BCI with two of them shared some fun facts about them and why they wanted to volunteer for us. Through organising regular events for our volunteers to get together, share their achievements in Blockchain & Climate Institute and their own personal developments, we hope to promote knowledge flow within the organisation and foster closer team bondings despite we all work remotely for BCI. Our volunteers come from different parts of the world. We may have various professions, backgrounds and cultures, but we share one thing in common - We are passionate about contributing to fight against #climatechange, we want to promote knowledge and usage of #climatetech #blockchain #ai #evolvingtechnology to propel #climateaction. Together, we want to make the Earth a better, cleaner, sustainable place to live in! Join us if you share our vision and passion! Check our openings here: https://lnkd.in/dmTAeTZM

🌍🌱 World Environment Day 🌱🌍 On 5 June, the world commemorated the World Environment Day, a momentous occasion established by the United Nations in 1972 and led by UNEP since 1973. To date, it has grown into the largest global platform for environmental outreach, bringing millions together to safeguard our planet. This year, under the theme 'Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience' and the powerful slogan 'Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration', it’s suggested that we should focus our efforts on tackling some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. At Blockchain & Climate Institute, we believe that innovative #technology, including #blockchain, holds immense potential in addressing these urgent issues. How can blockchain and #climatetechnology propel climate actions related to Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience? Stay tuned for our next post and welcome your comments here to share your ideas/experience!

It’s great to catch up with tacos and beer! We had our social evening in central London on 25 Apr. Although we mainly work together remotely, it’s amazing that once we sat down, we were like colleagues who meet everyday in the office. Never did we need to break any ice. We welcome each other like good friends, exchanging ideas for upcoming external and internal initiatives for BCI, learning more about each other’s day job, sharing our childhood memories, travel experiences, work aspirations, etc. While we have much diversity in our background, profession, and personality, we share the same passion and purpose: we all are eager to contribute our time and efforts to help on climate change. If you share our passion and purpose, join us! It's been reported* that 2023 has been recorded as the hottest year in human history. This development is not just worrying; it serves as a stark reminder of the imminent threat that climate change poses to our planet and all living beings. We cannot ignore the consequences of the relentless warming of the Earth's climate. Rising temperatures bring about a cascade of adverse effects, such as extreme weather events, habitat loss, and the disruption of delicate ecosystems. These impacts are not limited to a specific region or community; they affect us all, regardless of borders or backgrounds. Following the end of COP28 UAE and the establishment of the "UAE Consensus", we hope the world's leaders can really act swiftly, decisively, and collectively to ensure that the 1.5-degree Celsius target remains within reach. Failure to do so, as scientists expect, will have dire consequences for our planet's delicate balance and the well-being of future generations. In the face of this grave challenge, we, Blockchain & Climate Institute, as an NGO committed to driving climate action through innovative technologies, feel an even greater urgency to intensify our efforts. We will continue to leverage innovative technologies, foster partnerships, and advocate for sustainable practices to create a greener and safer world for all. Let us embrace this wake-up call as a catalyst for change. Together, we can make a meaningful impact, nurturing a planet that thrives for generations to come. *Read the BBC news report here: https://lnkd.in/djJw_rqf #ClimateEmergency #UrgentAction #SustainableFuture #Blockchain #AI #IoT #COP28 #UAEConsensus #ProtectOurPlanet #climateaction #climatechange #climatetechnology #globalwarming #blockchaintechnology #climateadaptation #climatetech
