For years, the UK and Europe have lagged behind the United States in the race to lead the global software industry, due to geographical, cultural, linguistic, and legislative obstacles. Boardwave’s White Paper, authored by our Co-Founder and CEO Phill Robinson, is aiming to combat these obstacles, by empowering our industry through a collaborative approach. To read the paper, which covers topics such as economic growth, technological sovereignty, and strategic autonomy, aimed at propelling the European software market, please click here: https://lnkd.in/d_t4Wcq8 #Boardwave #Makingwaves

Our exclusive network connecting European software leaders
About us
We are a powerful community of Software leaders, who recognise that we can be more successful together than alone. Boardwave’s exclusive members are the “who’s who” of the European software sector. Boardwave empowers each of them to build better businesses and together shape the future of the European software sector. Boardwave uniquely provides a high powered networking group for brilliant leaders; independent of their business size, from start-ups to large PE backed businesses; for talented first time CEOs, to the industry's most accomplished and successful Senior Executives and their Investors. Boardwave delivers a programme of informal networking events, drives further discussion through a series of more intimate dinners and debates. Then its mentoring programme helps executives to confidentially discuss their own business issues and personal development with world-class leaders, with relevant experience. It's completely free to join and independent, so there’s no sales pitches. Just open free flowing debate between thought leaders, at our curated events. Our mentoring programme is especially helpful to developing software CEOs and Founders. We connect them with deeply knowledgable & experienced Senior Executives. Helping develop them as leaders and accelerate their business success. Boardwave is not-for-profit, our revenue comes from our sponsors, to enable us to build the Boardwave community. We do this with a conscience. Having run all our programmes, each year, if there is surplus capital, we donate it to our charity partner, Cure Parkinsons. Boardwave - connecting like-minded people to facilitate their growth and success.

The findings from our recent survey of over 300 software leaders revealed one of the key concerns for the majority of our members, from early founders all the way through the growth stages, was board development and how to build a board that drives growth. To address this challenge, Boardwave, alongside our partner Russell Reynolds Associates, hosted a dinner in London, to give our members insights and advice from two incredibly experienced and inspiring software leaders. Steven Black, Executive Director, Russell Reynolds Associates, sat down with Boardwave Patrons, Elona Mortimer-Zhika, CEO of IRIS Software Group and Dawn Marriott, Partner, Hg, to tell their stories which have accumulated from multiple experiences on boards, including their experiences working together on the board of IRIS Software. It was an authentic and inspiring discussion. There were so many takeaways, but here are three that resonated... 💡 Be a chameleon. Every board is unique and you need to be able to adapt. 💡 Be a critical friend to the CEO and management team so they feel heard and supported. Empower them to succeed. 💡 Act fast when important decisions need to be made. This is imperative to the success of the business. We’d like to sincerely thank Dawn and Elona for their continued support to Boardwave, and this evening was no exception! We’d also like to thank our sponsors Russell Reynolds for making this event possible, and to Steven Black and Sean Roberts, for helping to guide the conversation. #Boardwave #MakingWaves

As leaders, we’re always assessing potential threats to our businesses. But today, geopolitical risks are more front-and-center than ever before. With the line being blurred between sovereign risk and corporate risk, we were thrilled to welcome Rupert Jones CBE, Strategic, Leadership and Boardroom advisor, in conversation with Kenneth Cukier, Deputy Executive Editor, The Economist. Rupert, drawing on his 30+ years of experience as a Major General, shared deep insights into navigating complex international crises - and offered practical advice on how our members can stay prepared in these uncertain times. Over an insightful dinner discussion, our members explored topics like supply chain resilience, today’s geopolitical landscape, and how businesses must step up to protect themselves amidst growing uncertainties. The message was clear: we can’t rely solely on governments for geopolitical stability. As business leaders, we need to ensure our companies are ready to adapt and withstand the risks that lie ahead. A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Hg, for making this event possible. And to Rupert and Kenneth, thank you for sparking such an engaging and timely conversation. #Boardwave #MakingWaves

"Time to place our bets: Europe’s AI opportunity" Hot on the heals of Boardwave Live, and #thegreatacceleration, QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey has published this report on AI in Europe, entitled "Time to place our bets: Europe’s AI opportunity". Very interesting read, which defines a simplified 8 segment value chain associated with AI adoption, Europe leads in just one of these currently, challenges in three and is almost absent in four. 8 Segment Value chain: 1. Europe leads: AI Semiconductor equipment 2. Europe challenges: Foundation models 3. Europe challenges: AI Applications 4. Europe challenges: AI Services 5. Less than 5% mkt share: Raw materials 6. Less than 5% mkt share: AI semiconductor design 7. Less than 5% mkt share: AI semiconductor manufacturing 8. Less than 5% mkt share: Cloud infrastructure & super computers. As we said at Boardwave Live, there is a moment in time (NOW!) for Europe to lean in to AI and carve out a strong position, we must take that opportunity and run with it - in fact accelerate! Great paper from Alexander Sukharevsky CEO of QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, who was an AI panelist at our conference. https://lnkd.in/e6uCneue

We had the pleasure of returning to Amsterdam this morning for a breakfast, where industry leaders from different stages of growth, came together to share insights on their perspectives on scaling and the valuable lessons that we can all learn from them. We were especially fortunate to have Ilonka Jankovich, Ulrik Nehammer and Ruud Van der Kruk join us, sharing their journeys and what it means to scale at various stages of business growth. Our speakers shared their stories of critical moments that propelled them to success, practical tips and what investors look for in a founder. They emphasised the importance of leadership, maintaining a strong purpose, and the crucial role effective leadership plays in driving growth. Thank you to all our speakers and attendees for making this event a success! And a special thank you to Rubio Impact Ventures for hosting in their beautiful office. We can’t wait to return to Amsterdam in the New Year! #Boardwave #Leadership #ScalingUp #SoftwareIndustry #GrowthJourney
