⭐ Thanks to our amazing colleagues, partners, and everyone who stopped by at our Farnworth Focus Team's* first ever Community Drop-In event at Farnworth Leisure Centre last Thursday. You all made it a huge success. The idea behind the Drop-In was to connect local people with some of Bolton’s fantastic support services – covering health and wellbeing, financial guidance, neighbourhood safety, the environment, volunteering, and more. 🗣️ Paula Rowson, our Community Engagement Team Manager said: “The Drop-In event at Farnworth Leisure Centre was a great success, showcasing the extensive community support offered by Bolton at Home and our partners. “Farnworth residents discovered valuable resources and services available to them right on their doorstep. “Thanks to the venue’s generous provision of free space, we were able to connect meaningfully with residents and provide information about housing support, wellbeing services, and local initiatives.” ✅ Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it this time. ⭐ We're spotlighting our Apprentice Building Surveyors this week. Working across the business, they've continued to hone their skills as they work towards their qualifications - and they’ve been making real differences to customers’ lives in the process. Their work involves: ➡️ completing building + site surveys ➡️ producing reports, specifications, and schedules of work ➡️ creating CAD drawings ➡️ tendering/managing contracts ➡️ delivering repairs, maintenance, adaptation, refurbishment, and development projects ➡️ developing safety plans + risk assessments They also advise customers on technical options for home repairs, improvements, and adaptations, and they support colleagues by providing valuable information and responding to queries. Our apprentices gain a well-rounded perspective on various aspects of surveying, spending time in 14 different areas of the organisation during their apprenticeships. He said: "Our Building Surveyors play a key role in maintaining our stock and ensuring that our customers are happy, healthy, and safe in their homes. That's why recruiting the right people to represent the business in this role and training them to the required standard is something we take very seriously. "We've recently reformatted the apprenticeship to align with industry standards. Upon successful completion, each apprentice will have gained Level 4 and 6 qualifications, have the opportunity to gain Chartership Status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and will also have five years' experience in the workplace behind them. "I'm extremely proud to support our apprentices. Having been an apprentice myself, I know how important it is to have the support of a mentor, a defined development plan, and the required level of exposure during the course of the apprenticeship." 🗣️ And Barrie Hurst provides apprentices with essential support and guidance as they progress. Barrie said: “For the last 19 years it’s been my pleasure to work with over 250 apprentices from across all departments in Bolton at Home to help them develop skills, knowledge, and confidence to do the job, and to flourish from the wider development opportunities available at Bolton at Home to become our leaders of the future. "Like all our apprenticeships, these roles are key to our business plan as they ensure we’re able to fulfil key positions in years to come. ❓ Did you catch Bolton College's short video featuring Davy Hall, our Apprentice Plumber during this year's National Apprenticeship Week? 🏘️ As Davy works towards his qualification and gains valuable experience, he's also playing a crucial role as we work to provide homes that are more energy efficient and cheaper to run for our tenants (in both our new and existing properties). Here's to you, Davy.

#TeamConnolly joined forces with the local community, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Bolton at Home to help clear and #recycle unwanted items from loft spaces and gardens, as part of Bolton at Home’s #retrofit scheme in #Westhoughton. Connolly is currently installing a number of #energysaving measures to properties in the area including improving loft insulation, draught-proofing, ventilation and windows as part of city-region energy-saving grant from the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. Bolton at Home were awarded a grant to make the houses more energy efficient, to help them deliver on the objectives of its Climate Change Strategy and work towards its goal of being a net zero carbon housing provider. The project has a total value of approximately £2.5m with 40% of that being grant funding. Tim Vincent-Barwood, Bolton at Home’s Group Climate Change Manager, said: “Making our homes more energy efficient is a key part of our strategy to reduce carbon emissions and help tenants to lower bills.” Over 25 #volunteers supported the community action event, clearing unused items from lofts and gardens, with over 40 tonnes of rubbish cleared.   #TeamConnolly provided willing volunteers, skips and much needed bacon sandwiches for the team, sourced from the Well Community Café in Farnworth. We caught up with local resident Dee, who said: “I’m looking forward to the works; they are going to help save energy which will bring my bills down. I wasn’t looking forward to getting ready for the work though, but all the volunteers were great today. They helped clear my garden and loft space and lots of the community got rid of unwanted items. It was nice to see so many neighbours joining in today – a big thank you to Connolly!” Linda Beaumont Customer and Social Value Manager from Connolly - who took part in the event said: “This has been a fantastic community event! Residents really care about the area and as well as clearing up, events like this help to bring people together. It’s the second clear out day we’ve ran for Bolton at Home customers, and in total we’ve helped clear and recycle around 60 tonnes of items!” #morethanconstruction
