#SpecialistStories Ahead of the Fine Chinese Art auction on 7 November, Lazarus Halstead, Head of Chinese and Asian Art in London tells us about some of the imperial Chinese artworks going #UnderTheHammer "This painting and Tibetan-style vase reflect the rich currents of cultural influence that were at play within painting and ceramic art of the Qianlong period in the 18th Century. One draws on Western oil painting traditions to depict an important prince of the court, the other channels Buddhist symbolism and form to create an object fit for a temple within the palace." Georgia O'Keeffe and photographer Alfred Stieglitz' relationship is one of the most iconic love stories of the 20th century. Completed just after Stieglitz's death, 'White Primrose' is one of only two works O'Keeffe created in 1947. The painting reflects her deep grief and loss, yet also conveys a sense of hope, symbolizing the rebirth and freedom she discovered after moving to New Mexico. Having passed through three notable private collections, including O'Keeffe's own, this masterpiece is now coming to auction for the first time in New York. 20th & 21st Century Art Evening Sale November 20, 2024 New York Browse the auction: https://lnkd.in/dJeTjECq

A glittering star 🌟 The Sarghitmish lamp is the star lot of our 12 November Islamic and Indian Art sale. The lamp has arguably the finest provenance, as well as exhibition and publication history, of any piece of Islamic glassware ever to come to market. In the late 1800s, the piece belonged to prominent French collector Charles Schefer. In 1906, it was then acquired by the Armenian aristocrat Boghos Nubar Pasha, the son of Egypt’s first Prime Minister. The lamp has remained within the Nubar family ever since and is offered at Bonhams from the estate of his descendant. The lamp has also been exhibited widely, in 1869 at the Musée Guimet in Paris and in 1903 at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in the Louvre. This exceptional lot will be on display in our New Bond Street flagship saleroom from 18 to 25 October before coming under the hammer next month.
