Great start to the week at the CoramBAAF Kinship Care Conference. A passionate panel including the new Kinship Ambassador Jahnine Davis. Lucy Peake talked inspiringly about how kinship carers and children are at the heart of the design and delivery of the DfE training and support services for kinship carers. BookTrust are delighted to be partners with Kinship in this important work, strengthening bonds and creating joyful moments through sharing stories

Teachers are key reading role models. Our Family Survey found that: ➡️ 73% of parents and carers of 5-11 year-olds believe their child's school effectively encourages a love of reading in its students. ➡️ 62% of parents and carers of 5-11 years olds say that their children regularly listen to an adult reading a book or story during school lessons. ➡️ 47% of 8–11-year-olds say they discover new books through their teachers. To support teachers to continue this great work, we've created a reading for pleasure Teacher Toolkit packed with tips and resources - take a look here: https://lnkd.in/eBBZf4ZF And for more information on the research, head this way: https://lnkd.in/e-wEtdxW

In #BlackHistoryMonth and beyond, fiction can be a fantastic way to connect children to the past. And, as author J. T. Williams points out, these books "can instil a precious sense of pride for Black children, while illuminating valuable shared histories for us all". Read more from J. T. Williams here: https://lnkd.in/eaebsk8b #BlackHistory #RepresentationMatters #ChildrensBooks
