I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the BOPA (British Oncology Pharmacy Association) 2024 the past weekend. It was an absolute pleasure as an international MSc clinical oncology student to be considered and afforded the privilege to join experts and highly distinguished pharmacists in Oncology in the UK. I gained a wealth of information and practical ideas, just to highlight afew; #opportunities for different specialties. It’s inspiring to see #oncologypharmacists in various specialties based on patient needs in order to optimize patient care. From specialties based on different cancers, Eg. Haemato-oncology, breast, melanoma, based on special groups like neurodiverse individuals and geriatrics, pediatrics, based on Pharma conventional medicines and drug delivery devices to biologics and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, research and clinical trials, education and technology and innovation (artificial intelligence) the list is just too long to exhaust. #Mentorship There is value for mentorship in #practice and in #Research where BOPA members partner with #ISOPP(International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners) for mentorship programs and capacity building programs, to improve capacity and ultimately improve care. #GlobalCollaborations I had the opportunity to meet and foster connections with amazing pharmacists doing great work in oncology willing to support Oncology pharmacy practice through sharing of ideas, Collaboration and Partnerships. I particularly loved all aspects were focused and centered around #patient. Quite admirable. Additionally, had the pleasure of meeting leaders in global oncology pharmacy societies. It was so lovely to meet all of you, I really appreciate all of you. Netty (Annette) Cracknell fBOPA FRPharmS -ISOPP President Evelyn Handel, PharmD, BCPS, BCOP -past ISOPP president Irene W. -ISOPP secretary Michelle Koberinski- CAPHO (Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology) President Pamela Yafai- CAPHO Communications Committee Chair Tina Crosbie-CAPHO Oncology Competencies Task Force Chair Finally, interested in oncology pharmacy, and wondering where to start? #JoinISOPP(free membership globally). #Opportunities are endless in oncology pharmacy Special appreciation to; #BOPAleadership Alice Tew and BOPA 2024 conference organizing-team

Thank you, BOPA, for a fantastic and inspiring weekend. This is the first time I’ve attended the BOPA conference. I was inspired by the excellent work of oncology pharmacists, technicians, and researchers and their efforts to support and improve patient care, reduce inequalities, and advance scientific knowledge. I was thrilled to learn about the work Netty (Annette) Cracknell fBOPA FRPharmS and her team lead through ISOPP (International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners). This organisation is dedicated to building global networks to enhance cancer care and patient treatment. The best part? It is free! If you are interested, go to isopp.org and join today. The weekend was packed to cover all in one post, so here are a few highlights: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Raj Nijjar and her team shared their Horizon Scanning capacity impact tool. Trang Dinh, Thomas L., Lilia So, and Aini G. presented their work on supporting patients with neurodiversity and learning disability going through their cancer journeys. Prof Richard Simcock discussed resilience in oncology services and reminded us that ‘Self-care is not selfish’. 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: One of the most valuable aspects of attending a conference is connecting and reconnecting with colleagues and identifying potential collaborations. I was delighted to finally meet Prof Shereen Nabhani-Gebara in person, and connect with Lilia So, Tiffany Chan, Kumud Kantilal, Simran Kaur Dhadda, and many more. 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Witnessing students’ enthusiasm and determination to make a difference with their work was fascinating. I was honoured to discuss views and aspirations with many and share my journey with them (Nawaf Al-Maajoun, Saffron Paul, Princess A. Odigie, Helin Polat and many more). It reminded me that what may be a simple conversation for us (senior professionals) is a massive deal for them. So, please, be approachable when you go to your next conference! 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: I thank BOPA for selecting my abstract (top five of 133!) for oral presentation. What an honour! Finally, I'm sharing a link if you want to read our work on cancer inequalities and intersectionality (free access). If you wish to incorporate intersectionality in your research but are unsure where to begin, the article includes a comprehensive checklist to guide you through every step of the research, making the process more manageable ➡ https://lnkd.in/d8wEpNSk See you next year! #BOPA #oncologypharmacy #research
