How Solaris Biotech Fermenter Supports Rubber Recycling Innovation The Solaris demo fermenter has played a vital role in Recircle’s rubber recycling process. With its lab-scale size and fine-tuned control over environmental conditions, the fermenter allows precise monitoring of enzyme performance, ensuring that enzymatic degradation is efficient. Its flexibility and modular design also make it ideal for R&D, enabling quick adjustments to enzyme concentrations or microbial strains. "Thanks to the support and expertise from BPES and Solaris, we have optimised our processes and are prepared to scale up for industrial applications. Our goal is to create a closed-loop system for rubber recycling that minimises environmental impact." To learn more, contact Matthew Wright on mwright@bpes.co.uk. How Recircle Innovates Rubber Recycling We recently discussed with Recircle about their use of the Solaris Biotech fermenter and its role in revolutionizing rubber recycling. Here’s a glimpse into how Recircle is transforming the process. Recircle, a sustainability-focused biotech company, is committed to addressing the environmental challenges posed by rubber waste. By leveraging biotechnology, Recircle aims to transform rubber waste into valuable, reusable materials, reducing reliance on traditional recycling methods. Using advanced technology like the Solaris fermenter, we can test small-scale, real-time processes for breaking down rubber crumbs using enzymes. These enzymes are chosen for their ability to break down rubber polymers, making recycling more efficient and eco-friendly. To learn more, contact Matthew Wright on mwright@bpes.co.uk. The Environmental Impact of Tyre Rubber Waste At BPES, we are excited to be partnering with Recircle to support their innovative rubber recycling efforts. We had the opportunity to ask them about their use of the Solaris Biotech fermenter in their recycling process. Here’s what they shared. Tyre rubber waste has a significant impact on both the environment and the carbon footprint. Incinerating tyres releases large amounts of CO2 and harmful gases, contributing to climate change and air pollution. When tyres are disposed of in landfills, they take hundreds of years to decompose and can leach toxic chemicals into the soil and groundwater, creating long-term risks. Recycling rubber presents unique challenges due to its complex composition of natural and synthetic rubbers, chemicals, and metals, making it difficult to process efficiently (Rajaeifar et al., 2022).
