Brainwave helps children with disabilities achieve greater independence through a range of specialist therapies.
About us
Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence by aiming to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies, and the children we work with have a range of conditions including: autism, brain injuries such as cerebral palsy and genetic disorders such as Down’s syndrome. Our therapists, who are drawn from the mainstream fields of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and educational therapy, work with the family to devise a unique programme, specifically designed to suit their child’s needs, which will help and encourage them to unlock their child’s potential. This may be anything from helping them walk or ride a bike, to recognising colours or writing their name. Our therapists have a wide range of experience and will use these skills to assess the needs of your child. The programme offers the most benefit to younger children, and we will see a child for an initial assessment from birth and up to 12 years of age, however, once a child follows a Brainwave Programme they only leave when the family feels the time is right. The programme is based on the principle of neuroplasticity. It aims to help the brain find new pathways in the 'neural network' by providing regular repetition of newly acquired skills. The programme can cover physical, educational and social abilities.

😢 💔 We are devastated to share that our National Therapy Assessment Centre in Bridgwater was vandalised over the weekend. Paint was thrown across the Retail Centre car park, office windows, and one of our vehicles. Glass was shattered, creating a dangerous environment for visitors, especially children with disabilities and additional needs that we work so hard to support. This senseless act has taken up valuable staff time - time that should be spent helping children reach their potential. All the funds we raise are carefully used to provide our vital services, and now we must divert valuable resources to repair the damage caused. The police have been informed, and we have clear CCTV footage of those responsible, which will be provided to them. The individuals who did this would have been covered in paint themselves. If anyone has further information, we urge you to come forward. Times are already difficult for us as a charity and the families we support and acts like this make it even harder for us to continue our work. If you feel able to support us in any way – whether through donations, spreading the word, we would be deeply grateful. Thank you to everyone who walks alongside us on our journey to support children with disabilities and additional needs to reach their potential. Contact us via enquiries@brainwave.org.uk To donate, please visit https://lnkd.in/dypEpm6P Together, we will rise above this. 🎈 #brainwavecharity #brainwave #support #childrenscharity #bridgwater #bridgwaterbusiness

Fabulous morning visiting the Brainwave Charity in Somerset to talk all things AAC and complex access. We had a super hands on session trying lots of different access methods, and discussing the fun and exciting ways to make use of what they already have 🌟 . We also did a bit of digging through the archives, and found some bits fit for a museum 🦖😂! Thank you for having me! ❤️

We are pleased to announce that Stacey has joined us as our new Operational Support Officer! 🎉 Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to the Brainwave family! 🎈 A little bit about Stacey 👇 Hi everyone! I’m Stacey, born and bred in Somerset and I’m incredibly passionate about supporting young people. I’ve absolutely loved my first couple of months at Brainwave and feel so excited and proud to be part of the Brainwave family. It’s a privilege to be part of a team who are making such a difference to children’s lives. Outside of work, I have a bit of an unusual hobby - I love ‘Celebrity Spotting!’ Whether that be going to live shows (where I’ve been known to go on stage…), attending TV shows (Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway was the best!), or even book signings; I love any kind of event! Celebrities I’ve met include James Corden, Simon Cowell and McFly, who are also my favourite band and I’ve seen live over 60 times (yes, really!) As you can imagine, I’m very excited to meet our Brainwave Patron, Mr Olly Murs, in the near future! #welcome #newteammember #brainwaveteam #brainwavecharity
