About us
Every 30 minutes, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. This could be the result of an accident, an illness such as meningitis or encephalitis, a poisoning, a stroke or a brain tumour. A brain injury has a devastating and life-long impact on the child and their whole family. Bones can mend and scars can heal but a brain injury stays with you for life and impacts on everything you think, feel and do. Established in 1991, the Child Brain Injury Trust helps children, young people, their families and professionals to come to terms with what has happened and how to deal with the uncertainty that the future holds. Please take a look around our website for further information on any of our services. We provide information, support and training to anyone affected by childhood acquired brain injury. This includes the child or young person themselves, their family and the professionals who support them

🧠 Do you Know Your Brain? Your brain is the control centre of our bodies, working behind the scenes every second of the day! But how much do you really know about it? 🤔 Over the next few weeks, we’ll explore the incredible anatomy of the brain and how it helps us move, think, feel, and function. Let’s start with the basics: 🔵 The Cerebrum – The largest part of the brain, responsible for thinking, memory, emotions, and voluntary movement. It’s made up of grey matter (the cerebral cortex) on the outside and white matter at its centre. 🔄 Hemispheres & Lobes – The cerebrum is split into two halves, called hemispheres: ➡️ The right hemisphere controls the left side of the body. ⬅️ The left hemisphere controls the right side of the body. Each hemisphere has four lobes, which control different functions. We’ll explore these in more detail soon! ⚖️ The Cerebellum is the area at the back of the brain and helps control balance, coordination, and movement, helping us stay steady on your feet. 👣 🔗 The Brainstem is the brain’s vital connection to the spinal cord, responsible for automatic functions like breathing, heart rate, and digestion. 🩷 Stay tuned as we break down more brain facts in our Know Your Brain series! 🧠✨ #KnowYourBrain #BrainKnowledge #ChildrensMentalHealth #MentalHealth #MentalHealthSupport #MentalHealthAwarness #KidsWellbeing #ChildrensWellbeing #BrainInjury #ChildBrainInjury #ChildBrainInjuryTrust #CBIT #BrainInjuryAwareness #EveryChildEveryFamily #UKCharity #AcquiredBrainInjury #BrainInjurySurvivor #BrainInjuryRehab #Cerebrum #Hemispheres #Cerebellum #Brainstem

Our work starts with compassion. As part of our commitment to families, we ensure they are at the heart of everything we do. 💙 This is the second in our series introducing the values that shape the Child Brain Injury Trust. 2️⃣ Compassionate – Families First 💙 Every child, young person, and family affected by acquired brain injury is at the centre of our work. We listen, support, and advocate, ensuring that no one faces acquired brain injuries alone. Because every story matters, and every family deserves to be heard. This value is demonstrated by the power of 🤝 Collaboration: We work closely with healthcare professionals, researchers, and the broader community to create a strong network of support for families. #BrainInjury #ChildBrainInjury #ChildBrainInjuryTrust #CBIT #BrainInjuryAwareness #EveryChildEveryFamily #UKCharity #AcquiredBrainInjury #BrainInjurySurvivor #BrainInjuryRehab #CharityValues #CharityMission #ChildrensCharity #VisonAndMission #CharityFoundations
