Protiviti UK inaugural Board Governance Survey is an interesting read. It highlights the need to be prepared for a range of threats. But interestingly Board's and C-suite's have differing views on where companies are today. In all area directors rate the level of preparedness to be higher than the C-suite view. Directors believe there is greatest need to focus on crisis management, while C-suite are focused on corporate culture, innovation and R&D. Does this divergence of views matter? Is it that directors are one step too removed from reality. It certainly indicates a need for conversation and proactive risk assessment. At Brave we believe that risk assessment at all levels starts with strategic objectives. Last week we shared the link to the guidance notes on the Kings Speech containing the news that the Audit and Corporate Reform bill dropped previously would be moving ahead to create a strengthened statutory regulator and to bring large Public Interest Entities into the fold. The final version of the guidance was contained on a different link so we are posting this again. Its worth looking particularly at the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors of quote on the important role of internal audit and assurance in informing directors as to whether the right controls are in place and risks managed appropriately.
