Materials: a longer-term view. As part of our B-Corp journey towards more sustainable practices, we’re constantly evolving our approach to materials. That’s in terms of what’s being used and the potential for reuse and recyclability. Brinkworth’s Sustainable Materials Steering Group meets regularly to present and discuss innovative and alternative materials; as well as considering commonly used materials in terms of their environmental footprint. Our digital materials library is in constant evolution, with each material logged in a database and ranked for its sustainability. As we test and learn, we are making steady progress in introducing more environmentally friendly materials into the library and gradually retiring some that don’t make the grade. Our knowledge and intention in this area opens up new possibilities for our clients to achieve beautifully effective architectural and interior design that is mindful of the wider environment. For example, for the Ordinary’s flagship store in London’s Covent Garden, the trays used for stock display are made from recycled plastics from Smile Plastics, with the brand’s “O.” logo routed into the surface. At the end of their life, the trays can be returned to Smile for further recycling. And to help achieve an elevated lab-inspired aesthetic, we used soft, matt, anti-glare tiles. The tile chosen is Din by Domus, which is free of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). As we shift towards a more circular economy, we are increasingly working with clients on end-of-life plans for our structural designs. Could the movable units from a pop-up store be used by a local school, or sent back to the manufacturer for parts? By working together, we can reduce the use of harmful materials, find ways to keep items in use by others who need them, and recycle more.

About us
Brinkworth is a B-Corp certified global design company building brands with impact in every dimension. We work across spatial, visual, digital, experiential, brand and strategy. Creating meaningful connections. Never superficial, always grounded in commercial sensibility. Established in 1990, our London-based company has so far delivered thousands of projects around the world for global giants, local legends and the major brands of tomorrow. Brinkworth is award-winning and globally renowned. But it's not for everyone. Rigorously unconventional. Professionally excitable. Seriously ambitious. With absolutely no pretension or presumption. We give brands real presence in the world. The space to come alive. * Current and past clients (list TBC) include Nike, Google, Aries, Sonos, Supreme, Rapha, Browns Fashion, Selfridges, Samsung, Adidas, Jason Markk, End Clothing, Highsnobeity, Marni, The Hoxton, Ravensbourne University and the Tate.

Our latest report shares insights from ISPO Munich 2024, one of the world's largest sports business events. At Brinkworth, we were excited to see many of the brands we collaborate with showcasing innovative ideas and exploring the future of the outdoors through activations and sustainable material innovations. We’re excited to share the news that BRINKWORTH DESIGN has been certified as a B Corporation™ (B Lab UK) joining the global movement that prioritises people and the planet. We’re committed to ongoing reporting and transparency on the impact of our business on our workers, customers, communities and environment. At Brinkworth, we’re inherently mindful about materials and making the best use of existing structures, and we design for longevity. But as well as environmental sustainability, being a B-Corp is about equality, transparency and fairness. This chimes with our belief that people are not numbers or audiences, but active participants. When we build communities, interesting and beautiful things can happen! We are proud to be part of B Lab! #bcorp #design

"No wonder fashion likes to play in the field of football culture — it’s rooted in an emotive realness where childhood nostalgia meets athletic heroism and a sense of place. This heady mix means a lot to massive audiences beyond the stadium, and fashion x football collaborations have snowballed in recent years. But when it comes to physical retail, could football clubs match the mood, with more elevated and meaningful spaces where fans can shop collections and commune with the club?" Nick Roberts, Associate Director at BRINKWORTH DESIGN, explores how big football clubs can redesign their physical spaces. Huge thanks for MediaCat Magazine for entertaining the idea! Also big thanks to Alex Bee of Space Doctors for her insights on the sector. Followers of Brinkworth will notice an exciting piece of news on the last page, more on that soon.
