About us

Aerospace Bristol is a new industrial heritage museum in Filton that inspires and entertains today's and future generations through the stories and achievements of Bristol’s aerospace industry - past, present and future. Open now, the museum's show-stopping centrepiece is Concorde Alpha Foxtrot. Designed, built and tested in Bristol, she was the last Concorde to be built and the last to fly. The new museum has been planned by the Bristol Aero Collection Trust and has significant support from BAE Systems, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, South Gloucestershire Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Our goal at Aerospace Bristol is to inspire the next generation of engineers. Thanks to funding from South Gloucestershire Council, we’ve been able to award travel bursaries to local schools, enabling more students to benefit from the museum and our educational programmes. The Engineering Futures Appeal has also allowed us to upgrade learning equipment and resources, including iPads, laptops, rockets, and robots, and to incorporate adaptive learning materials for Special Educational Needs (SEN) pupils. To find out more about how you can help us on our journey to inspire the next generation, follow the link below. https://lnkd.in/eMK23_cC

We’ve been named one of the UK’s most ‘fun’ educational visitor attractions! 🎉 Aerospace Bristol was ranked 25th among all visitor attractions in the UK. Chris Welsh, CEO of Saturn Visual Solutions, who commissioned the research, said: 'Both adults and children are more likely to learn and remember information if it’s part of a ‘fun’ experience, so we thought it was important to find out which educational visitor attractions were most successful in making learning fun.' As part of our 'Look Up! The Story of Hot Air Ballooning in Bristol' exhibition, we have Concorde hot air balloon seats on display. These seats were removed from a British Airways Concorde in 2000 and are now the last airworthy part of any Concorde. They regularly fly underneath Captain Tim Orchard's hot air balloon with either himself or his daughter, Marie in command. We are delighted to display something so perfectly linked to Bristol's ballooning and aircraft heritage as part of the exhibition.

Earlier this year, Aerospace Bristol volunteers began refurbishing the outdoor picnic hut in time for our summer activities. They started by reinforcing the shed's structure with extra timber for roof support, then installed new guttering and completed the internal painting. The hut now also features wooden doors at the entrances and has been rewired for new lighting and heating. We're immensely grateful to our volunteer and former Concorde chief engineer John Britton, the Britton family, and all the volunteers who helped transform this space for everyone to enjoy!
