About us
We are the oldest and the largest local animal charity in Bristol. We’ve been caring for the city’s pets and wildlife since 1887, helping, healing and homing over 10,000 vulnerable animals each year. At our Rehoming Centre, we find new and loving homes for around 500 animals each year. We also provide a 24-hour service for injured or sick wildlife and veterinary care to animals who have been victims of cruelty or neglect. Our annual running costs exceed £2 million and although we’re proud to be affiliated with the RSPCA, we receive no automatic funding from them. We rely entirely on local support from the Bristol community and surrounding areas to help fund our work. These donations from the public and support from local businesses and groups enable our dedicated professional team to provide essential local care, love and support, 365 days a year to local Bristol animals in need.

A massive thank you to the fantastic team from PwC for joining us today for a hands-on Crafts and Paws corporate volunteering day! The team dedicated their time and creativity to making a range of enrichment toys, from cat scratchers to tug toys, all of which will bring joy and stimulation to our cats and dogs while they await their forever homes. They also spent some quality time with our cats, which is an extra bonus to the day. We hope everyone had a wonderful time with us and we would like to send our appreciation for all the hard work.

At the beginning of the year, we launched our Fostering Programme, driven by our commitment to the welfare of the animals in our care. While we strive to make our rescue centre welcoming, some animals find shelter environments overwhelming and stressful. Our fostering programme was created to offer alternative housing arrangements to provide a supportive space for animals who may be struggling in our shelter or would benefit from more personalised care. Living with a foster family can be a vital step in the rehabilitation of animals who may not be used to love and affection. Fostering offers a calm, nurturing environment, which can make the world of difference. It can help speed up recovery, reduce behavioural issues, and greatly increases the chances of adoption. Plus, our fostering programme frees up space in our rescue centre to help even more animals in need! We are currently accepting applications for foster carers who can take in small animals, cats and dogs. If you have a quiet space and a big heart, we’d love to hear from you! Fostering can transform the life of abused and neglected animals. By opening up your home to a foster animal, you’re not just giving them a place to stay – you’re giving them a chance at a better life. Additionally, if your business can support our foster programme through donations or sponsorship, please get in touch today.

This year, Tug-E-Nuff is celebrating our 15th anniversary with a new charity initiative and a free event to celebrate positive play. To celebrate, we'll be matching customer donations up to £3,000, made at checkout between now and October 26th, for charities Bristol Animal Rescue Centre and ANIMALS IN DISTRESS (TORBAY AND WESTCOUNTRY). We'll also provide a selection of our products to both charities to help enrich the dogs in their care through the power of play. We've also launched a limited series of Q&A videos filmed with pet industry experts - including dog trainers, behaviorists, and vets and rehab therapists like Michael Shikashio CDBC, founder of AggressiveDog.com, and dog trainer Justine Schurrmans - exploring positive playtime. The series will consist of 15 videos, with a new video being released each week on our youtube channel (https://lnkd.in/eMgtNCmt) and via Spotify starting this September. We'll also be hosting a free ‘Birthday Pawty’ at our HQ in Exmouth to celebrate on October 26th, featuring talks and demonstrations from local dog trainers, a toy refresh station to breathe new life into much loved toys, giveaways and a doggy escape room experience. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the Tug-E-Nuff team - including our co-founders Danny and Teresa Rouse - and see how our toys are made. You can also connect with other local dog businesses and take home a free pawty bag. Get your free ticket here https://lnkd.in/ezbQzhVe.

Today we wanted to talk about one of our most important and beautiful parts of the rescue centre - our Dog Sensory Garden. In May 2023, we proudly unveiled our Dog Sensory Garden – a nurturing and stimulating sanctuary designed to enhance the overall well-being of the dogs in our care. This space has quickly become one of the most extensively used areas at the rescue centre, providing a space for play and relaxation. With limited access to green spaces, our sensory garden plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of our dogs, helping relieve anxiety and behavioural issues. Our garden is thoughtfully designed with the dogs’ welfare in mind, featuring a variety of plants that offer different scents and textures, encouraging dogs to explore and engage their senses. The project is continuously evolving as we strive to maximise every inch of space and maintain the gardens effectiveness. More than just a physical space, our Dog Sensory Garden is essential for the mental and physical well-being of the dogs we care for. If your business is interested in sponsoring our Dog Sensory Garden, we’d love to hear from you!
