About us
The British Fashion Council (BFC) is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to further the interests of the British fashion industry and its designer businesses by harnessing and sharing collective knowledge, experience and resources of the sector. Formed in 1983, the BFC is funded by industry patrons, commercial sponsors, and the government including the Mayor of London and the ERDF. It leads the industry through creative influence and is strategically repositioning British fashion in the global fashion economy. The BFC showcases the best of British fashion design to an international audience. London Fashion Week is a gender neutral event showcasing the latest collections every January, February, June and September. Each season, LONDON show ROOMS takes emerging designers to Paris giving them the opportunity to promote themselves overseas. The BFC also organises The Fashion Awards, the UK’s annual celebration of excellence within London and the global industry. The BFC helps designers at various stages of their businesses through its support initiatives. These include the BFC Colleges Council and its menswear and womenswear talent identification schemes: NEWGEN, and the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund. The BFC also runs and owns charities including the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, BFC Foundation.

The last 12 months have been monumental for designer duo Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Iron, founders of Chopova Lowena, receiving both the 2024 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, as well as the New Establishment Womenswear award at The Fashion Awards 2023 presented by Pandora a few months prior. Quickly garnering a cult-following as well as industry acclaim, the brand’s now distinctive garments are designed with a focus on skill, craft, time and consideration for impact on the environment. 2023 NEW WAVE: Creative 2023 Tami Aftab is a photographer of English and Pakistani heritage working in fashion and portraiture alongside her personal photographic practice. Tami's work is playful and intimate, often centred around themes of identity, family, and memory. Aftab has previously collaborated with the BFC as a guest photographer for #LFW June 2024, which piloted a brand-new concept spotlighting three the cultures that have made a rich and significant contribution to the British fashion industry. For Season 6, Episode 1 ‘Decoding Queer Fashion’, cultural historian at BFC #CollegesCouncil university London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, Fenella Hitchcock, leaves the lecture room to educate people on the Fashion Forum Podcast about the role of fashion in shaping queer identity, along with model, producer and photographer, Zorawar Waraich, discussing the importance of the understanding that queer fashion is a personal journey with no defined definition. In this episode they continue the conversation together with poet and trans visibility activist, Kai Isaiah Jamal, together with designers Jordan Bowen and Luca Marchetto of JordanLuca, where they continue to explore the many definitions of queer fashion. This afternoon, guests from the BFC Community, gathered to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the BFC's Circular Fashion Innovation Network, an industry-led programme led by the British Fashion Council (BFC) and UKFT Association in partnership with UK Research and Innovation to accelerate the UK towards a Circular Fashion Ecosystem. At the event, sustainability leaders, industry experts, designers and supporters gathered to celebrate the work that the programme has done so far, supported by the launch of the CFIN Interim Report, a comprehensive document which synthesises a year's worth of stakeholder engagement and research, focusing on three pivotal areas; Circular Business Models, Sustainable Manufacturing and Recycling Infrastructure.
