  • British Triathlon, as part of the Clean Water Sports Alliance, is encouraged by today’s announcement of an Independent Commission and the commitment of the UK and Welsh Governments in tackling the crisis that exists in our blue spaces and the way they are managed. Following the successes at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Torremolinos last week, we risk losing triathlon events and training venues with open water swimming in this country for local participants, Age-Group and elite athletes unless we see effective protection and management of lakes, rivers and water bodies in the UK for swimming. For too long the needs of shareholders has been placed ahead of that of the environment and the local communities that can and should benefit from access to waterways across the country for recreational engagement in water-based sports. We will take great interest in the review and contribute to the recommendations through the Clean Water Sports Alliance to ensure they meet the needs of the triathlon community, and we will support the Commission to bring about real change for our blue spaces. https://brnw.ch/21wO2a5 Eve Joseph Ruth Daniels Bill James Ben Cummings

Antonio Arimany of Spain has been elected as the President of World Triathlon. After a hard-fought election, everyone at British Triathlon congratulates Mr Arimany and all those who have been elected to positions within World Triathlon. Today marks a change of our sport and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Marisol Casado for her leadership of the sport over the last 16 years.  Sadly, Ian Howard was unsuccessful in his Presidential campaign. Ian has held a number of positions including Vice President of World Triathlon, Board Member, European Triathlon Board and British Triathlon Chair but came second to Mr Arimany in the election.  Ian campaigned to become the president of World Triathlon after eight years as a vice president. His commitment and tireless work to advance the standing of the sport internationally has been an inspiration and we are sorry he was unable to take this even further in the role of president.  Our congratulations go to the successful candidate, Antonio, and we look forward to working with him to realise triathlon’s potential in the global sports arena. As we move into this next era, we will continue to collaborate with World Triathlon to ensure triathlon remains a progressive sport and which is open to all who wish to be part of our wonderful community. Three British representatives have been elected to committees in the World Triathlon elections. The elections are held every four years at the beginning of each Olympic and Paralympic cycle.  The British representatives elected and the committees they are on are: Jamie Gordon, Audit, Risk and Integrity Committee  Debbie Clarke, Multisport Committee  Duncan Hough, Women’s Committee For the full story visit: https://lnkd.in/e3MQhZpy.
