A strong voice for vets
About us
British Veterinary Association is the national representative body for the veterinary profession. We guide members throughout their careers, from student to retirement, with the support and knowledge they need to achieve their goals, and speak up for them on the issues that matter most. We are the only UK veterinary association that looks after the interests of all vets in all disciplines. Our members are at the heart of everything we do and, with the power of more than 19,000 members behind us, we’re able to provide a voice to represent and services to support.

In our final Animal Aspirations #SocialTakeover for #BlackHistoryMonth, second-year University of Liverpool vet student Keji Junaid shares her proudest achievement and offers advice for those aspiring to work in veterinary 👇 “From a young age, I have loved animals, and although I did not grow up in a house surrounded by pets, I loved watching animal programmes on TV which is where my interest in working with animals started. Fortunately, I was also inspired by family members who work in healthcare as they encouraged me to strive for a career in veterinary medicine. “My proudest achievement is pursuing my dream and getting into vet school, even when I was discouraged by my school. I love the variety of the courses and professions, as no two days are ever the same, and you get to know so many different people and animals. “Throughout my life, I’ve noticed a significant lack of representation of black vets and people of colour in the animal industry. This initially made it difficult for me to envision myself in the field. However, as I grew older, I found inspiration in trailblazers like Dr Mandisa Greene and Dr Bolu Eso, as well as organisations such as #AnimalAspirations. This has shown me that diversity in the profession is possible. Motivated by this and by my friends, I have since helped found a society at Liverpool Vet School to celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity within our program with the support of Animal Aspirations. “My advice to other young people interested in an animal career is simple, do not give up! You have just as much to offer as anyone else, so you should not let anyone discourage you from following your dream.” #TeamVet #WeAreBVA
