  • We were pleased to be present at the opening of the Lodge Farm II Allotment at RMAS Sandhurst! Our team had the incredible opportunity to volunteer and collaborate with Vinci and their contractors to transform a dilapidated area into a functional and vibrant space for the service personnel living on the base.   This project showcases our social commitment to the communities on the sites we work on. The allotment was officially opened by Dame Penelope Keith DBE DL and Paul Cottam, Managing Director of Vinci Facilities.   We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Tracy Breen and the entire team for giving us the opportunity to assist in this great cause. Your dedication and hard work have truly made a difference!   #CommunityEngagement #TeamWork #SocialCommitment #RMASSandhurst #VinciFacilities #SOMAD

  • And last, but by no means least, we have one of our most experienced rope access technicians, Gavin Whitlock. Gav has a wealth of experience that he brings to the table, allowing us to deliver beyond expectations every time for our clients. Why/how did you become involved in rope access? I became involved in rope access because I was always fascinated by heights and the thrill of working in challenging environments. I started in BMU (building maintenance units). I also did work in rope cable and 'old school' Bosun's chair and moved on to use MEWP (mobile elevated work platforms) and scaffold towers. As I developed and progressed over time I managed a team of rope access technicians who introduced me to rope access work. The blend of technical skill and adventure was the perfect fit for me, and I have never looked back. What do you love about it? I love the sense of freedom and perspective you get from working high above the ground. Every day is different, and the views are incredible. There's also a strong sense of camaraderie among the team, and solving unique challenges together is immensely satisfying. What do you dislike about it? What I dislike most is probably the weather. Working in harsh conditions can be tough, whether it's extreme heat, cold, or rain. Also, carrying heavy gear up and down can be physically demanding. Do you ever experience fear? If so, how do you deal with it? I would be lying if i said no, we all have faced a situation or have an off day where you think i just can't do this today. So yes, I do experience fear from time to time, especially in new or particularly challenging situations. For example, on buildings over 50 storeys high your body tells you not to step off that edge. I deal with it by relying on my training and my team around me. Knowing we are focused on safety procedures and each other's back helps keep me calm and focused. Then once you are in position on the rope you free a strong sense of freedom and calmness which is unmatched by anything else. What is/was your favourite project? My favourite project (pre-Building Transformation) was a rope we did for Windsor Castle, working on the external of the Queens Tower (which is the Royal residence when they stay at Windsor). It was an iconic structure with incredible views, and the technical challenges of navigating and rigging such a complex structure were really rewarding. Plus, knowing we were helping to preserve a piece of history made it extra special. #ropeaccess #teamwork #workingatheight

More about our rope access team (warts and all!) 🏙 🌇 🌅 📢 To kick off a series of posts on our rope access techs, we hear from our Rope Access and Compliance Manager, Calvin Bradley. Over the last few years, the amount of rope access work we do has grown due to demand; we are fortunate to have a highly skilled professional team whose expertise we can rely on to deliver safely and efficiently every time. #ropeaccess #abseiling #IRATA #workingatheight #teamwork #teamfocus #moreaboutus 1) Why/how did you become involved in rope access? I moved into the industry after leaving the military. I enjoyed working at height and had plenty of experience, but no formal industrial qualifications. I then followed a similar career path as many IRATA qualified technicians and learnt plenty along the way about working safely in London, which is obviously an extremely busy city. One major difference between working at height in the military and working at height in civvi street is taking public safety into account, as this is a major part of the job. 2) What do you love about it and why? I love the challenge of identifying the most suitable method of access when working on a building. There are many factors to consider, with health and safety being at the forefront of any decision. 3) Many people reading this might wonder whether you ever experience fear? If so, how do you deal with it? I believe that if you have the right level of training along with risk assessments, method statements and rescue plans in place that are specific for the task, then there won't be anything to fear. At Building Transformation we have a great Health and Safety culture, great people, training and equipment. 4) What is/was your favourite project? That's a hard question to answer as we have some fantastic clients who push us to deliver excellent service. We have many different projects that each bring their own unique challenge and different methods of access.

This week we hear from Nicole, another member of our rope access team. Nicole's an integral part of our team, working up and down the country on complex projects; she and her Dad Gavin (who will be featured next week) make a formidable duo! Why/how did you become involved in rope access? I became involved in rope access thanks to my Dad, who got me into the field after I had been working in childcare. He knew I loved adventure and the outdoors, so he encouraged me to make the switch. It was a big change, but one that I have never regretted. What do you love about it? I love the challenge and thrill of working at heights, and the amazing views I get to see every day. I love activities that get my adrenaline going and there's nothing quite like being suspended on a rope at a height to feel that rush! There's something very rewarding about completing a difficult task at a height, proving that women can excel in this male-dominated industry. What do you dislike about it? I wouldn't necessarily say it's a dislike however some challenges are that the job can be very physically demanding and dealing with harsh weather conditions can also be quite challenging; but they are all part of the adventure. Do you ever experience fear? If so, how do you deal with it? Yes, fear is natural, especially when facing new or particularly challenging work settings. However, by relying on my training and the safety protocols that are put in place to manage how we work safely it significantly reduces the need to be fearful while working at height. Also knowing that I am part of a highly skilled and qualified team who have many years of experience within the rope access field gives me reassurance and confidence that our work environment is always safe. What is/was your favourite project? My favourite project was working on an airbase. We had the privilege of working somewhere that most people wouldn't have the opportunity to. We used suspended gantries in an aircraft hangar for our access, this was something new and different from our daily routine, it was a lot of fun, and we were able to gain valuable experience whilst working. We worked with a variety of people from different professional backgrounds allowing us to learn new skills and techniques that we could use on other projects. This project allowed our team to showcase our skills and professionalism, it was great to be part of such an impressive achievement. #womeninconstruction #workingatheight #ropeaccess

A day's hard graft for a great cause... Last week a few of the team went along to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to pitch in for VINCI Facilities Stand Out! Make A Difference (SOMAD) project to rejuvenate and renew an area of land. It was great to get stuck in with everyone, including Vinci colleagues and representatives from other partners. We're pleased to be part of a great initiative! #teamwork #SOMAD #vincifacilities #collaboration #goodcause
