IP in the News - In a Jam: Duchess of Sussex in Sticky Situation over Trademark   Royal jam-maker Meghan Markel has been refused a U.S. Trademark for her ‘American Riviera Orchard’ company after an established firm, Harry and David, objected because of the "likelihood of confusion" with their jam-related ‘Royal Riviera’ TM. This follows an earlier rejection of the TM ‘American Riviera’ for being “primarily geographically descriptive” (you can’t monopolise a place name as a trademark). The Duchess also tried to trademark lifestyle blog ‘The Tig’ last year but was forced to ask for an extension after forgetting to submit a 'statement of use'.
