  • Thanks Lydia for sharing, it’s great to read your positive thoughts on the C-DICE Turing data study group, glad to read that it was a valuable experience. We were amazed with what you all managed to achieve in such a short time!

I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the latest Data Study Group hosted by The Alan Turing Institute 🚀. Data Study Groups are two-week collaborative hackathon events that bring together researchers from academia to tackle real-world data science challenges posed by industry, government, and the third sector. I was selected—alongside 8 other participants—for a challenge presented by C-DICE, focused on repurposing and decommissioning energy assets to maximize their impact on achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Since my research revolves around the optimal long-term planning of water networks, this challenge offered a fresh perspective and pushed me to think beyond my usual domain by tackling a similar problem in the energy sector. A huge shoutout to my amazing teammates Congye Wang, Giovanni Briglia, Oluwatosin Uthman Zubair, Taha Sajjad, Thanasis Giannakopoulos, Zhaoxing Li. Special thanks to the facilitators of the challenge Zining Yuan and sokipriala jonah, the principal investigator Tereso del Río Almajano, and the challenge owners Lennie Foster and Sharon Henson. A big thank you to the Data Study Group organizers for their amazing planning and dedication—it really made the event a great experience! 💡 If you're passionate about data science, I highly recommend applying for future editions of the Alan Turing Institute Data Study Groups. It’s an incredible learning experience and a fantastic way to collaborate with brilliant minds from different fields! https://lnkd.in/eescKCfg

  • WANTED: Early Career Researcher with Strong Views on Net Zero in the Energy Sector! Join an ECR Expert Panel for the Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund Community Forum. C-DICE is looking to assemble a panel of 6 early career researchers (postdocs, research fellows, PhDs) to attend the Innovate UK Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund Community Forum. The ECR panel will hear the project presentations, representing all the GB energy networks, and provide a review of the projects – Innovate UK are looking for fresh opinions from our next generation of researchers, to inspire their funded projects to think big, bold, and risky to solve net zero! The one-day event is aimed at project managers, engineers, innovators, and partners representing all the GB energy networks. It will be a great networking opportunity with those working on the large innovation projects happening in energy. In return you can have a chance to inspire the usually traditional energy networks to think differently!  The meeting takes place on 4 March 2025 in Edinburgh, you need to attend in person, C-DICE will cove your travel and accommodation expenses and provide a £100 honorarium for your time. The C-DICE training programme is full-speed ahead for 2025, with lots of training happening over the next few weeks. We are looking forward to this workshop in March with the wonderful Dr. Katy Richmond Mahoney, PhD. VRDF. FRGS. Register below if you'd like to attend.

  • C-DICE Early Career Researcher International Networking Sprint – A Unique Opportunity for Postdocs & Early Career Researchers! Are you looking to expand your networks and find collaborators overseas? C-DICE are hosting two Networking Sprints in Nepal and Rwanda in March 2025 and are looking for 10 early career researchers to join us. Your travel costs are fully funded by C-DICE and there is a chance to win up to £5,000 in grant funding to further develop your network.  A networking sprint is an interactive, fast-paced workshop where researchers form interdisciplinary teams, develop innovative ideas, and create new networks. At the end of the sprint, teams will pitch their proposals for a chance to win up to £5,000 in funding to support network development, future collaborations, and research funding applications. Why Participate?  Expand your research network – connect with researchers across institutions and disciplines.  Enhance key skills – improve collaboration, communication, pitching, and interdisciplinary teamwork. C-DICE upcoming International Sprints:    Nepal Sprint - 5 - 6 March 2025 - planning tools and models for energy transitions, incorporating eCooking, fuel stacking, and financial data analysis.  Rwanda Sprint - 20 - 21 March 2025 - exploring energy storage solutions for time-shifting energy use in regions with intermittent or unreliable power supplies. Find out more and apply for a sprint on the C-DICE website.

  • Join a C-DICE Early Career Researcher (ECR) Networking Sprint A sprint is a short, focused event where people work together to solve problems and achieve specific goals. Unlike regular workshops or conferences, sprints emphasise teamwork and action over a couple of days, leading to meaningful results. For postdoctoral researchers, sprints are a great way to collaborate with others from different fields, develop innovative ideas, and build professional networks. C-DICE has created the networking sprint to help postdocs and early career researchers start to develop cross-disciplinary networks to build teams that can drive forward research proposals.    One of the highlights of this sprint is the opportunity to secure a grant funding of up to £5K to develop your network to start to create a grant proposal. The grant will enable your team to further develop the network through workshops, meetings, facility visits etc.     C-DICE is running three sprints, one in the UK and two overseas. Watch this space for more information about the overseas sprints, but the UK sprint is soon, and you can find out more at our webinar. Join the webinar on 16 January , 1pm–2pm, register and find out more on the C-DICE website https://lnkd.in/eBZPB6gR   The C-DICE UK Sprint will focus on identifying challenges and creating practical plans to address regional net-zero goals using systems-based approaches. It will take place on 10 – 11 February 2025 at Loughborough University.   You don’t need to have expertise in the sprint’s focus area — just curiosity and a willingness to work with others. With support from industry and C-DICE mentors, participants will form teams, identify challenges, and create practical plans to address regional net-zero goals using systems-based approaches. https://lnkd.in/e_cTUEmi
