Earlier this week, our CEO, Michael O'Toole, joined the team at Cambridge Junction as they welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to their venue. The work that Cambridge Junction does year-round - welcoming over 100,000 people to 600+ shows, inspiring 7000 young people, and supporting local artists - is vital to the life and creativity of Cambridge and the wider county. His Royal Highness got a behind-the-scenes look, meeting Cambridge Junction's current and former apprentices, as well as talented local artists who were rehearsing new performances. He also unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit, the first royal visit to the venue since it opened in 1990. It was a day full of energy, creativity, and community. Huge congratulations to the entire Cambridge Junction team on this momentous occasion.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Abbey People with our Cambridge In Need fund panel members. The fund has awarded a grant to support staffing costs at their Food Hub, which supports approximately 500 people facing food insecurity in Cambridge. They operate three times a week, with the help of over 40 volunteers. They are working on transitioning from emergency food provision to an affordable food scheme in the form of a community shop model, where people will be able to access food essentials at prices they can afford. This model aims to increase dignity and agency for its beneficiaries. Thank you to Nicky Shepard and the rest of the team at Abbey People for taking time out of their busy days to catch up with us 💛

We're proud to share this fantastic update from Cambridgeshire County Council's Care Leavers Event, which we supported through our Outlook Fund. Young care leavers from across #Cambridgeshire enjoyed an evening of joy, connection and laughter at Cambridge Junction, connecting with organisations including Become, NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service), Grafham Water Centre , University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University, Inspire 2 Ignite CIC and more. From mocktail competitions to gaming stations, the event created a wonderful space for young people to connect while learning about the support available to them. Congratulations to the organisers and all involved in making this such a special evening!
Last night, we had the privilege of hosting a Care Leavers Event for our young people in Cambridgeshire. We were thrilled to welcome organisations like Become , NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service), Grafham Water Centre , University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University , Inspire 2 Ignite CIC , our Health colleagues who attended - and many other fantastic organisations who showcased their offers to our young people. From nail painting (special thanks to my foster mum for volunteering for this), to sober beer pong, to a mocktail showdown between the leaving care teams, table tennis, a Wii station and an epic chocolate fountain - the night was filled with joy, connection and laughter. A huge thanks to every memeber of staff who made this event possible - from Business Support, to our Participation team, to the Leaving Care PA’s & Team Managers - and to all of our young people for their support on this. There are too many people to list who helped plan, organise, advertise, transport young people - my thanks goes to each and every one of you who made this happen, and contributed to making this a night to remember for our young people. Reflecting on last night, has filled me with immense pride and gratitude. I have struggled to find words to express just how special this event was for me personally as a care leaver myself… but also as a Local Offer Lead. Seeing everyone come together so wholeheartedly for our young people has been incredibly special and I am so proud to have been a part of this. A special thank you to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation for their generous support in making this event possible, and to the Cambridge Junction for being such incredible hosts. #NationalCareLeaversWeek #CareLeavers #WeAreCambs

Today, we held a strategy planning away day with our trustees. We're thrilled to welcome two new members to our board - Jennifer Crompton DL and Alex Schaafsma - who will be bringing their expertise and passion to help guide our work supporting our local community. A big thank you to Rosalie Tribe at Arm for hosting us and providing a wonderful meeting space for our trustees to come together and map out our priorities and plans for the next three years. Our away day was also rather timely, coinciding with #TrusteesWeek. It is the time of year when we take a moment to appreciate all the hard work that trustees do to ensure that our third sector organisations are well run and successful. A huge thank you to all trustees, past and present, who have helped to shape our charity into who we are today and what aspirations we have for the future, to continue supporting our community as best as we can.

We recently visited Centre 33 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough with the Harry Cureton Fund's panel members. The fund awarded a grant to Centre 33 to help them extend the opening hours of the Young People's Hub. It supports young people in #Peterborough with their emotional and practical needs through their drop-in Someone To Talk To service. Thank you to the team at Centre 33 for meeting with us and updating us on their work supporting local young people.
