Following today’s Budget, our Tax and Estate Planning Specialist, John Chew, shared his thoughts on bringing pensions into the scope of inheritance tax: “This year, around 5% of households will be subject to inheritance tax. As a result of the changes announced in today’s budget, this figure is expected to almost double by 2030. “The move to bring pensions into the scope of inheritance tax means that, going forward, IHT will not only be a tax that is paid by the wealthy. There are still plenty of options for clients to consider but it’s important to encourage conversations about estate planning sooner rather than later.” #CanadalifeUK #CanadaLifeUKAdviser #Finance #AutumnBudget #AutumnBudget2024 #FinancialPlanning #IHT #InheritanceTax

What does Dan Crook, Managing Director – Protection, think about the Autumn Budget? “With the news that employers National Insurance contributions will increase by 1.2ppts to 15%, coupled with an increase to the national minimum wage, employers of all sizes will be feeling the crunch. “There could be a temptation for employers to cancel their protection policies as a consequence, but we would urge employers to take a long term view. Ultimately, these valuable benefits exist to help employers to attract, retain and support their employees, and should continue to be considered as an essential component of their workplace proposition, not a nice to have.” #CanadalifeUK #CanadaLifeUKAdviser #Finance #AutumnBudget #AutumnBudget2024 #FinancialPlanning #EmployersNI #NI #NationalInsurance

The recent report into the state of the National Health Service, painted a very serious picture. The review, conducted by former health minister and respected surgeon Lord Darzi, has made it plainly clear that urgent reform is needed. Insurance benefits are the bedrock of workplace protection, but it's much more than that too. It's also a consistent health and wellbeing support service for employees and their loved ones. We believe that workplace protection and associated support services have an important role to play in helping to alleviate pressure on the NHS, in tandem with the three ‘big shifts’ proposed by the government, that will lead to long-term reform. Dan Crook, Managing Director for Group Protection of Canada Life UK, comments on the final IPPR ’s report on Health and Prosperity, which reveals that economic inactivity due to sickness could reach 4.3 million by the end of the next parliament: “The final report of the IPPR Commission on Health and Prosperity underscores the significant health challenges the UK faces, alongside the urgent need for innovative strategies to revitalise the economy. We are encouraged by the report’s focus on making healthier lives a cross-society mission, with an emphasis on the environments where people spend the majority of their time – particularly in workplaces. “The Government, employers, and insurers all have a vital role to play, working together to enhance and sustain the wellbeing of the UK’s workforce. With our protection policies supporting over 3 million employees financially, emotionally, and practically, we see first-hand the crucial role protection plays in addressing and preventing health challenges. By working collaboratively, we can do even more to support both employers and employees, reduce workplace absence due to ill health, and ultimately drive productivity across the UK.” Read the full report here: https://ow.ly/wOw750TpTe5 #employeewellbeing #workplacehealth #CanadaLifeUK
