Supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire and investing in research.
About us
Each year, over 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. When a child is diagnosed, lives are turned upside down instantly: not just for the child but the entire family. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, emotionally, physically, and financially. Supporting children and families throughout that journey is why our charity, Candlelighters, was formed more than 45 years ago. Our mission is to bring light to every family affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire by providing emotional, practical and financial support, as well as bringing hope, by investing in vital research to improve the outcomes and lives of children with cancer.

Want to support children and young people with cancer this Easter? 🐣 To make this year extra special, we're suggesting a different way to share the joy. Instead of bringing Easter eggs, could you donate the cost of an egg or two to our Easter appeal? Of course, every child will still get an Easter egg (we usually have surplus!) but donations allow us to create a vibrant, fun-filled Easter with activities and events for everyone. ✨ Making a donation means that we can allocate much-needed resources in other areas, which will help to make the hospital a more enjoyable environment and ensure children and families are well supported. Let's work together to make this Easter in hospital as fun as possible.💛 You can donate now on our website: https://lnkd.in/eK8QG43

#SupporterSunday 💕 A big thank you to the incredible team at The Two Pointers in Woodlesford. Candlelighters supported the landlord's family many years ago and they wanted to give back, as they remember warmly the support they received. 🌟 Over Christmas the pub took donations, all in the name of supporting Candlelighters and families affected by childhood cancer. They also had a card machine for donations, which would turn on the snow machine at the front of the pub - when someone donated, the snow machine was turned on, which the local children loved! ❄️ This wonderful fundraiser raised £1344 in total! And excitingly, The Two Pointers are eager to support Candlelighters over Christmas again and are already planning for new decorations and lights for 2025! 🎉 Thank you again for all the wonderful effort and bringing joy to so many! 🤩

As we approach Easter, so many wonderful supporters like to collect and donate Easter eggs to children currently in the hospital. This gesture, while kind, often means we are inundated with surplus eggs! 🐣 This year, we're asking our supporters to instead consider donating the cost of one or two eggs to our Easter appeal to help us fund other support for children in the hospital, such as crafts and activities and Easter events. Your donations will make sure we have all the resources we need to make the hospital a fun and happy environment around Easter. 💛 Don't worry: we'll make sure all the children staying in the hospital will get an Easter egg! ✨ Making a donation means that we're able to allocate much-needed resources in other areas, which will help to make the hospital a more enjoyable environment and ensure children and families are well supported. You can donate now on our website: https://lnkd.in/eK8QG43

#SupporterSunday 💕 We recently celebrated with Bettys Tea Rooms in Harrogate their remarkable achievement of raising over £7,378 for Candlelighters as their Charity of the Year for 2023/24! It was an inspiring and emotional morning to hear the other branches’ personal connections with their chosen charities and the difference they have all made from their fundraising activities. The wonderful team at the Harrogate Tea Room got involved with a range of different fundraising activities such as marathons, quiz & bingo nights, raffles and a 20 mile circular walk of Harrogate 🎉 We can't thank Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate enough, for being such amazing charity partners throughout the year-long partnership and for the lovely hospitality they provided. Their support has made an incredible difference in helping families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire. 💚
