Great opportunity last Friday 13/09 to support Elize Massard da Fonseca, PhD and the Canning House Team (Ian Perrin, Susana B.,Juan Teran Jurado, Sarah Ahmed and Freddy Nevison-Andrews) alongside Juliana C. and Isabella Fumeiro, to organise this amazing Conversa 2024 event at FGV EAESP - Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas. It was my first time organising an international event and it was from a personal and academic perspective a very meaningful way to improve the relations between Brazil and UK, a country in which I lived for so many years and played a fundamental role in my education. The event went beyond a dialogue with both nations learning from each other and giving voice to Brazilian specialists. Looking forward to be in Conversa 2025 in the UK!

At the Canning House UK-Brazil Conversa 2024 in São Paulo last Friday, I had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on strengthening the economic ties between the UK and Brazil, particularly in emerging industries like EdTech, FinTech, and AI. Moderating one of the panels with Carla Ferreira, Martin Whalley, and Marcio Zanetti was a valuable experience, as we explored strategies for fostering innovation and growth in both nations. A significant conversation also took place with Governor Eduardo Leite of Rio Grande do Sul. We discussed the immense challenges faced by the state following the devastating floods and the path to recovery. The resilience of the people and the ongoing efforts in rebuilding homes and communities in Rio Grande do Sul reflect a strong spirit of collaboration, both locally and internationally. Grateful to Canning House, FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas, Anglo American, and the event’s supporters, including Diageo, Câmara Britânica de Comércio e Indústria no Brasil - Britcham, and the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in GB, for creating such a vital platform for these important conversations. Looking forward to seeing the positive outcomes of our shared efforts. #EmergingIndustries #Collaboration #Innovation #Reconstruction

Last Friday, September 13, I had the priviledge to participate at the Canning House event, #Conversa. Our panel, focused on economy, moderated by Jonathan Knott CMG, HM Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean at UK, and with participation of @carlagferreira, Vice Chair Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, @natalia-dias-melo, former Managing Director - Capital Markets, Fund Raising & Investors Relations, and Martin Whalley, Executive Director, Trade & Investment - Brazil, at British Consulate São Paulo. We discussed how to further improve trade between UK and Brazil, which emerging industries to focus on, and which are the low hanging fruits to prioritize. Many interesting idas came up during our discussions, but the closest initiative Brazil should pursue is the ractification of the Double Taxation Agreement #DTA by the Brazilian Congress. The #DTA has already been signed between the Executive branches from the two countries in 2022 and ractified by the UK Parliament in 2023, pending only the ractification the Brazilian Congress. This agreement in force will unleash an impressive volume of direct investments from UK companies in Brazil, with positive impacts to Brazil's GSP, create local employment opportunities, and open UK markets to Brazilian goods and services. #Britcham #CanningHouse #DTA #UK_Brazil_trade

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to São Paulo for Canning House UK-Brazil #Conversa. It was fantastic to see our corporate members actively contributing to panels on key topics, ranging from #TechnologicalTransformation to #EconomicTies. A special mention to Diego Sette (Pearson), Eduardo Bastos (Grupo de Países Productores del Sur), Ana Carolina Salomão Queiroz (Pogust Goodhead), Henrique Frizzo (Trench Rossi Watanabe/Baker McKenzie), and Christian Perlingiere (Control Risks) for sharing their insights. A highlight of the event was the participation of Eduardo Leite, Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, and an address by Rt Hon. Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for #EnergySecurity and #NetZero at the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. I would like to extend special thanks to Thomas Nemes and Maria (Loly) Vallenilla from Anglo American for sponsoring the event, and Aileen Keyes from Diageo for supporting our networking reception.
