Recently, Richard Morgan, Dan Squires, Matthew Lyons, Adam Mayers, and Grace Go from Rendel Limited and Aspec Engineering published a paper on the Hay Point Shiploader and Berth Replacement (SABR) project. Rendel Limited, known then as Rendel Palmer and Tritton, designed the berth in the early 1970s. Over 50 years later, Rendel Limited and Aspec Engineering were appointed to undertake an independent review of the berth. This review confirmed that the detailed design for the shiploader and berth replacement could withstand the required design loads and comply with project requirements and Australian Standards. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: • Repurposing the existing berth to accommodate larger ships and a new shiploader. • Extending the life of existing concrete caissons to support the new berth structures and shiploader by 50+ years. • Increasing resistance to withstand cyclones. • Boosting capacity from 6,000 tonnes per hour to 8,000 tonnes per hour.
