Developing the Eastern Minerals Project in Sri Lanka, one of the highest-grade mineral sands projects globally
About us
Capital Metals is developing the Eastern Minerals Project in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, approximately 220 km east of Colombo. The Eastern Minerals Project is one of the highest-grade mineral sands projects globally, with a current JORC Resource of 17.2Mt with an average grade of 17.6% Total Heavy Minerals, and with the potential for resource extension. Our goal is to become a globally significant producer of high-grade mineral sands for the international market, with a commitment to applying best-in-class mining practices and bringing significant positive benefits to Sri Lanka and the local community - with over 300 direct new jobs to be created and over US$100m in direct government royalties and taxes.

Exciting progress! Our plant nursery project is underway - an important milestone in our commitment to world-class restoration. This is the first of multiple nurseries that will support our efforts to rejuvenate natural habitats, stabilise dunes, and promote #biodiversity. The nurseries will create local jobs, engaging the community in this vital initiative. We are fortunate to have received guidance from renowned expert Dr. Suranjan Fernando, and our talented internal ecologist Jegatheeswary Jega Gunasingam is leading these efforts. Pictured is our Operations Manager Harsha Udawatta on-site at the nursery. The accompanying images showcase both the value beneath the surface (#heavyminerals) and the existing habitat that we will restore and enhance. We are committed to ensuring that our operations not only provide economic value but also contribute to the long-term health of the coastal ecosystems. #CMET #Mining #SriLanka #Reclamation #Sustainability

Last week, we held an insightful stakeholder strategy workshop where we identified key stakeholders, refined our strategies and reviewed key messaging. Our COO Stuart Forrester led the discussions alongside our newest team member Jegatheeswary Jega Gunasingam (pictured top right with Stuart). We recognise the critical role our stakeholders play in achieving our social licence to operate. The session was both engaging and collaborative, with valuable insights from our team, which included our talented consultants. A true display of excellent #teamwork throughout! #community #stakeholders #mining #ilmenite #rutile #zircon #garnet

Welcome Jegatheeswary Jega Gunasingam, our new Community Relations Manager in #SriLanka! Jega has over 20 years’ experience in community engagement, environmental protection and agriculture development in Sri Lanka – particularly in the Eastern Province where our project is located. She is passionate about communities and social mobilisation, having worked extensively with NGOs and lectured at Eastern University Srilanka. Jega has been involved in ecosystem restoration initiatives and has represented Sri Lanka at international conferences focused on nature conservation and natural farming. She also sits on the advisory board for a young women’s empowerment group and serves on the boards of various national consulting firms. Jega’s knowledge, skills, and experience will be a great asset as we continue to engage and collaborate with our #stakeholders. #CommunityRelations #mining #ilmenite #rutile #zircon #garnet #womeninmining

Great meetings at Mineral Technologies in Queensland – the global leaders in mineral processing solutions – as we explore exciting opportunities for collaboration. 🌀Their wet concentrator plants incorporate proprietary state-of-the-art spiral technology for mineral separation, delivering maximised grade and recovery with a reduced operational footprint. We’re encouraged by the suitability of their pre-engineered solutions to support a low capex phased ramp-up of production aligned with our goals. Thank you to Matthew Allen and Lorne Johansen for hosting Stuart Forrester and Greg Martyr. We look forward to advancing our discussions. #ilmenite #rutile #zircon #garnet #SriLanka #mining

Organisational culture is essential to project delivery and attracting top talent. We have a growing team in #SriLanka including grads and master’s students and are delighted to report notably high engagement rates from a recent survey delivering an overall score of 83.6%. These positive results are reflected in our operational progress including permitting as we plan for #mining. #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeWellbeing #EmployeeMotivation

My first time on site today and my main thought was Grade is King! #SriLanka is blessed with rich heavy mineral deposits. In the case of Capital Metals plc, the Eastern Minerals project has a Heavy Mineral Grade of 17.6%. This compares to my previous roles where the grade was less than 2.5%. We continue to make strong progress with the Sri Lankan government, landowners, and the community. #MineralSands #Mining
