Eindhoven municipality proposes to purchase Brainport Industries Campus
The Brainport Industries Campus (BIC), located in Eindhoven-Northwest, is one of the high-tech and innovation campuses in Brainport Eindhoven. The college of mayor and aldermen intends to purchase BIC 1, which was completed 2019, from the current owners. This intended purchase will be submitted to the Eindhoven City Council in February. The purchase of BIC 1 gives the municipality the opportunity to even better direct the development of the Brainport Industries Campus. This is important for the future of Eindhoven, the entire Brainport region and the Netherlands.
Alderman Stijn Steenbakkers (Brainport and Economy): "On our campuses, the jobs of tomorrow are created and the innovations that make a difference to society are developed. They are the beating heart of the new economy. This is being monitored with increasing interest both domestically and abroad. Becoming an owner of BIC 1 is of strategic importance. In this way, we can further strengthen our regional innovation ecosystem, safeguard the public functions in BIC 1, further shape the strategic cooperation across the campus and better protect our unique business infrastructure. Building a powerful and sustainable future for Eindhoven and the entire Brainport region requires a progressive government that dares to take a position and makes real choices. The purchase of BIC 1 is a unique opportunity that we therefore want to seize with both hands."
Alderman Maes van Lanschot (Finance and Participations): "We’re pleased with the intended decision to acquire BIC 1 as a participation of the municipality of Eindhoven. BIC 1's solid business case is an important financial precondition. In addition, the corporate structure provides the opportunity to bring reliable public-private partners on board as long term co-owners."
Raphael Noé (CEO Capreon): “We are exceptionally proud of what we have achieved thus far at the Brainport Industries Campus. We helped drive BIC to 100% occupancy, adding key blue chip multi-national, start-ups and incubator businesses, alongside the educational and government occupiers. The campus is now an institutional, prime, well diversified and stable asset which sits at the forefront of real estate, and particularly at the heart of the Brabant region and local community. The next step is taking BIC into local and governmental hands where it belongs, and it can fulfil its mission. We look forward to working with the municipality of Eindhoven on these next steps of BIC, and continuing to deliver on its mission to becoming the premier hub for innovation, collaboration and excellence in the high-tech manufacturing industry.”
