Want to know a little more about our brilliant charity partner, Tree Aid? 🌳 Since 1987, Tree Aid has grown over 30 million trees with local communities, and supported more than 1.2 million people across African drylands. 🌴 Tree Aid's community-led projects help to transform lives, by empowering people to grow sustainable incomes from tree products, while tackling the effects of the climate crisis for those living along its frontlines. Their work is part of the Great Green Wall initiative - an ambitious, Africa-led regreening movement, aimed at growing 8,000 km of trees across the width of Africa. Over the last year, Tree Aid has planted more than 2.5 million trees and worked with more than 1.7 million beneficiaries. They won’t be stopped anytime soon, either. By 2027, Tree Aid promises to reach 2.4 million people with the support they need, while growing another 12 million trees. 🤝 We’re so proud to be part of Tree Aid’s mission, which you can read more about below. When new people come on board at Carbon, we ensure we do everything to make them feel supported, from full induction training schedules with all teams, to nominating each person a supportive ‘buddy’. Our ‘buddies’ are there to help talk through any questions new joiners may have, a go-to person outside of their team to offer a friendly face and be there for any moments they just fancy a chat. Our recent new joiners and their buddies went for breakfast this morning, which we thought was a nice way for each to show their appreciation for one another, and to bring all the buddy partnerships together to discuss the initiative and ways we can support future new joiners. We hope you enjoyed your breakfast and we look forward to the next one! Over the past two weeks, our team has had the pleasure of volunteering at Richard House Children’s Hospice. From painting colourful walls to sprucing up the outdoor space with a little gardening to refresh the lovely welcoming space they have for children and their families. We are always proud to support Richard House Children's Hospice, London’s first children’s hospice, and we love to help when and where we can towards the brilliant work the hospice does. Giving back to our community is a core value for us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand to the wonderful work happening here. Huge thank you Richard House Children’s Hospice - we had a great time and can’t wait to come back again soon! Happy Halloween from Hackney City Farm Limited! It’s such a pleasure to spend the day volunteering here at Hackney City Farm. It’s a brilliant place for locals to go, and tourists to visit, and we’re proud to help with the upkeep of the farm to ensure it’s in top shape for visitors. Throughout the day, we’ve mostly been helping to muck out. There’s so many activities you can have a go at, including gate painting, fence repairing, stable building and much more. The staff here work tirelessly and it was brilliant to see their work ethic, and an example of what farming looks like inside a busy city. Thank you to Hackney City Farm for having us. Why not pay a visit next time you’re in or around the east end of London? https://lnkd.in/dv8wU8wN Gary Clark Alex Rowe Shreeya Joshi Claire Turner Sophie Gainsford Dip CII Heather Starling Shannon Fox

Our Co-Founder, Ben Laidlaw, sat down with InsTech Podcast to discuss the journey of Carbon since its foundation, along with our new Syndicate 5757 and our proposed program of work in the US market. Ben speaks about navigating changes in Lloyd’s regulation, being Private Equity owned, our post-bind analytics and pricing platform Graphene and why it’s such a game changer for the market, where he thinks Carbon will be in 12 months’ time - and what keeps him up at night. Among all of this, Ben gives his three top tips on improving DA business. Thank you to InsTech for inviting Ben on the podcast. At Carbon, we’re passionate about giving our employees the opportunity to give back to communities in need that are closest to them. A number of our team recently spent a day with Dogs Trust in Basildon, helping to lighten the load on the brilliant staff and volunteers who care for these dogs on a daily basis. Along with donating food, toys and leads for the dogs, the team also helped clean out the dog training halls, washed down the outdoor play areas and made snuffle mats, where the dogs then had a treasure hunt to find the hidden treats. Later in the day, our team took the dogs for a walk and took them in the outdoor play area for a run around. It was a very wholesome day for our team at Carbon, and we’re so grateful to Dogs Trust for having us and letting us spend a day with the dogs. Even in 2024, many industries continue to be male-dominant, including the insurance world. As a female founder, I believe it is incredibly important to take time, not only to recruit and support future female leaders, but to connect personally with them, reminding ourselves of the important contribution they make to our industry. Last week, the Carbon ladies took time out to celebrate the diversity we bring to our business and industry. Sitting at the table, I was incredibly proud to be surrounded by women at every stage of their careers and from such diverse backgrounds. Taking time out to support one another; to acknowledge the different management styles and thinking we bring to the insurance industry; to have open and honest conversations about our journeys and the challenges within them. Our lunch was a reminder of the powerful change we are all making. Celebrating diversity in insurance and tech is not just a nod to International Women’s Day once a year. It’s something I encourage all of us to reflect on and celebrate every day. #WomenInLeadership #BreakingBarriers #Diversity Carbon Underwriting #carbonuw #mgu #lloydsoflondon #siab #d&i #insuranceinnovation

We are still buzzing from attending the WSIA (Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association) Annual Marketplace in San Diego last week! The four-day exhibition saw more than 8,000 industry professionals come together making it a fantastic opportunity to spread the news of our new Syndicate 5757 - a technology-first proposition built around its proprietary ecosystem, Graphene, which will focus solely on US programme business. We had the opportunity to catch up with colleagues old and new who were as excited as we are for the launch of Syndicate 5757. WSIA was a worthwhile experience for us to make positive connections and kickstart our progression into the US market. You never know who you may meet and what may come of it, and we continue to foster a people-first culture, both internally and externally. Thank you to the Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association for hosting such a great conference and thank you to Gary Clark and Claire Chisholm for all their hard work at the event. It’s true, we won a golf tournament! We recently took part in Richard House Children's Hospice's Charity Golf day at Chigwell Golf Club. Thank you to everyone who took part and to Richard House for another brilliantly organised and fun day out for everyone who attended. This week was golf, last month we participated in their successful five-a-side football tournament! Richard House Children’s Charity, London’s first children’s hospice, and one of our chosen charity partners, supports over 300 families across London. They offer unwavering support and a community of compassion for families facing life-limiting health conditions. Their sports events are just one of many ways organisations can get involved to support this amazing charity. Intelligent Insurer caught up with our very own Rob Crocker at the Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous de Septembre last week, and has published its conversation with our Active Underwriter. “Our broader goal is to manage nearly £400 million in GWP across Syndicate 4747 and 5757 by 2025, reinforcing our position as a leader in delegated authority business on a global scale,” says Rob. Rob cites that the programme business sector represented an ideal place to leverage Carbon’s proprietary technology, Graphene, and that the US market’s scale offers “numerous opportunities”.
