  • 🌍 Navigating the Changing ESG Landscape in 2025 🌱 As the ESG reporting landscape evolves, it's clear that businesses need to stay ahead of the curve. Right now, the UK government is consulting on adopting the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (S1 & S2) as UK SRS. These standards could realistically become part of UK law by late 2025 or early 2026, with reporting obligations likely kicking in for the 2026 accounting period. Of course, the exact timeline will depend on the consultation outcomes and how quickly the legislation progresses. At Carbonetzero, we know how challenging it can be to navigate these changes while also running a business. From frameworks like SECR and ESOS to preparing for what’s next, we’re here to provide the expertise, tools, and support you need to tackle sustainability reporting with confidence. If you're looking to stay compliant and make a real impact, let’s chat. We're passionate about helping organizations turn regulatory requirements into strategic opportunities. 📩 Feel free to reach out, or check out the attached document for more details. #Sustainability #ESG #IFRS #NetZero #Carbonetzero #Leadership

  • 🌍 The recent news of Shell's successful appeal against the 2021 ruling mandating a 45% emissions reduction by 2030 has sparked conversation about corporate responsibility and climate action. While this ruling might at first glance seem to be a setback for environmental gains, the tide of climate litigation aimed at holding corporations accountable continues to gather momentum. Balancing the transition to a low-carbon economy requires careful strategy. Fossil fuels have historically underpinned global energy needs, supporting industrial growth and development. However, their impact on climate change necessitates a gradual shift towards sustainable energy sources. While pushing for reduced emissions and cleaner technologies, it's crucial to recognize the current role of fossil fuels in supporting global energy security. The transition must be managed in a way that ensures energy accessibility and economic stability without compromising urgent climate goals. Moreover, regulations are evolving to address the full emissions cycle. The European Union, for instance, is gradually incorporating Scope 3 emissions—those produced along a company's value chain—into mandatory reporting requirements. This shift emphasizes the importance of holistic accountability, pushing companies to assess and report all indirect emissions comprehensively. We stand at a pivotal moment where businesses are increasingly challenged legally and ethically to transition their models. The responsibility lies in achieving a balance, ensuring a managed transition towards sustainability, and ensuring companies align with global climate targets. #ClimateAction #SustainableTransition #CorporateResponsibility #EnergyBalance #Scope3Emissions https://lnkd.in/eVAFDSaE

  • As COP29 comes towards it end in Baku, increasing concerns about its effectiveness have surfaced. Despite some progress, notably in climate finance mechanisms and global solidarity levies aimed at supporting developing countries, leading climate policy experts argue that the process is becoming unfit for purpose. Influential figures, including Ban Ki-moon and Christiana Figueres, emphasize the need for reforms, such as hosting future COPs only in countries that demonstrate genuine support for climate action. The overwhelming presence of fossil fuel lobbyists further diminishes the conference's focus on the just transition needed to address the climate crisis. While proposals like the introduction of new levies and a push for fiscal justice show promise, the slow movement on key financial agreements indicates that significant changes are needed to ensure COP truly advances from negotiation to implementation. #ClimateAction #COP29 #SustainableFuture #ClimateJustice https://lnkd.in/e6mBvCvJ

  • A very interesting article from the Telegraph. As we look at the evolving investment landscape, the concept of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing stands out more than ever. ESG investing involves backing companies that prioritise sustainable practices, addressing various factors that impact our planet and society. The core pillars of ESG are quite distinct. The "Environmental" aspect considers how a company approaches issues like climate change, carbon neutrality, and resource conservation. Within the "Social" dimension, we assess a company's relationship with stakeholders, evaluating its commitment to labor rights and fair treatment for all. Finally, the "Governance" factor examines the effectiveness of a company's leadership and transparency in operations. Measuring ESG performance can be challenging due to the lack of standardised reporting. Many companies track their ESG initiatives using internal metrics, but without an industry-wide framework, comparisons can be difficult. Recently, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has implemented stricter oversight to combat vague sustainability claims and “greenwashing,” aiming to ensure that investors can trust the integrity of ESG investments. This then leads us to distinguish between ESG investing and sustainable investing. While the two are often used interchangeably, sustainable investing is a broader concept. It not only incorporates ESG principles but also focuses on investing in companies that actively provide solutions to social and environmental challenges. There are notable benefits to ESG investing. Not only does it allow investors to align their portfolio with personal values, but it also supports companies that prioritise long-term sustainability, potentially leading to better financial performance down the line. Despite the benefits ESG funds have, in some cases, underperformed compared to traditional investments, especially since 2020. Outflows from ESG funds reached record levels in 2023, raising questions about their viability. #ESG #SustainableInvesting #Investment #Finance #EthicalInvesting #InvestmentStrategy https://lnkd.in/eJFBa98K.
