Join Caretta Research’s buyer network at IBC - International Broadcasting Convention for an exclusive closed-door networking breakfast (⏲️Sunday Sep 15th, 10am at the RAI) for senior decision-makers at top streaming platforms, broadcasters, telcos, and pay TV operators. It's the second networking event we've run – back in March we enjoyed the spectacular views from the Gherkin building in London (photo), and shared some great ideas, insights and tips with technology buyers and users from many leading broadcasters and studios. At the IBC event, it's your chance to swap notes on the most interesting and innovative new products that are catching tech buyers' attention, as well as hearing insights from Caretta Research analysts on the key trends of this year's IBC, and our take on the most important technologies on show. It's a great opportunity to bounce ideas off others considering similar technologies and perhaps get some new ideas about optimising your tech stack and workflows. Places are limited and by invitation only, so please do register your interest here: https://lnkd.in/eNHZtaQR

A bit of newsroom nostalgia ... but more importantly focusing on how decades of continuous development in news production technology is continuing to evolve. If you work in newsrooms, please take a few mins to share your thoughts on how workflows and tech are evolving ... details in Rob's post below.

I've worked my way through my fair share of newsroom technology in my time. I first wrote scripts as a teenager on a typewriter, a sheet of BBC-branded carbon paper sandwiched between the yellow top copy and the "black" (blue actually) bottom copy. Progressing to the excitement of Amstrad PCW 8256 word processors, and then on to the legendary (and wonderful) Basys. I can still CMD DUP in my muscle memory (if you know, you know). An embarrassing pic below of my working on my regular 5am shift as breakfast news editor at BBC Radio Humberside, hiding behind said Basys green screen terminal. Then came the earliest hint of digital. We replaced quarter-inch tapes and carts with MiniDiscs. We started moving audio around by compressing to MP3 on a Windows 3.1 PC. And I helped introduce ENPS into the BBC just after the '97 general election. That was my route into media tech – I went off to work with AP for many years on newsroom projects around the world, including one of the earliest digital newsrooms, with the launch of i>télévision in France in late '99 running on ENPS and the innovative Sony Newsbase system (launch pic below, credit Wikimedia Commons/Christian D'Aufin). It was the era that Pinnacle Deko CGs were still controlled by an RS-232 serial cable. That's an era away now, but the fantastic thing about news technology is that the pace of innovation has never lets up. MOS Protocol, desktop video editing, automation, robotics, bonded cellular, the rise of web and social media publishing, and now the huge potential for AI to help – if it's harnessed in the right way. And that leads me to the reason for this post ... I'd really like to hear from colleagues in newsrooms how your workflows are changing, and whether the tech and tools are keeping up. 📝If you're a journalist, director, engineer, camera person, editor, you name it, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the industry survey we're running. We'll share back the results and it'll make fascinating reading. https://lnkd.in/d2mQXd6y
