Cedarwood's Social Supermarket made a significant and heartening impact throughout 2023/2024, offering vital support to thousands of individuals and families during challenging times. With 5,335 individuals served—an impressive increase of 2,000 from the previous year—the initiative has clearly grown in reach and importance. In total, over 12,000 household members benefited, a reflection of the community’s growing reliance on this invaluable service. At just £6 per shop for a basket worth over £15, the supermarket provided real savings while preserving dignity and choice. This translated into an economic boost of £58,635 in freed-up income for local households, alongside the redistribution of 31,284 kg of food—the equivalent of over 75,000 tins of beans! The Nourish Store, Cedarwood’s community-driven initiative, plays a vital role in promoting dignity, sustainability, and resilience. With a £1 membership, it ensures affordable access to nutritious food, reducing food waste and supporting local well-being through surplus food redistribution, fresh produce, and pantry staples. Cedarwood’s wrap-around support addresses the root causes of food insecurity through financial advice, employment guidance, mental health services, and community workshops. This is more than just a supermarket—it's a lifeline. With continued support and donations, Cedarwood can sustain and expand this essential work, helping even more people to thrive with dignity, hope, and choice.
