Diversity isn't just a checkbox—it’s a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, and growth. The companies that embrace it create environments where differences unite us, driving better outcomes for all.
In clinical research, teamwork transcends background, race, and ethnicity. It’s essential to recognize that while diversity strengthens the workplace and clinical trials, our shared commitment to the work is what matters most. I’m often asked about diversity in the workplace, especially during Black History Month. My view is simple: let’s champion the companies that are doing it right. A few years ago, while working as a contractor consultant at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals UK, I was alongside 15 colleagues who came from or had roots in 14 different countries (see picture from my leaving meal). The diversity was incredible and so natural that it felt effortless. Similarly, I’ve kept close ties with colleagues from Takeda since 2015. Despite working on high-pressure projects with CROs, external vendors, and sites, we all thrived—and I’m still in touch with over 20 people from that time, including four who I continue to travel the globe with! So, the question I’d pose to companies getting it right is: How did you achieve this level of diversity in the workplace, and how do you maintain it so seamlessly? When done well, diversity is a powerful driver of success. Insight: Diversity isn't just a checkbox—it’s a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, and growth. The companies that embrace it create environments where differences unite us, driving better outcomes for all.
