Last week, our leader, Rowena Hay and deputy chief executive, Paul Jones FCPFA visited the beautiful spa town of Harrogate, at the home of North Yorkshire Council, for the annual Local Government Association conference. Innovation zones, debates and round tables offered excellent opportunity over the three days for skills and knowledge exchange, learning and discussions of best practise. In a keynote address to the conference, deputy prime minister, Angela Rayner, committed to giving local councils a greater voice at the heart of government, confirming as part of her speech that local leaders are in the best place for local decisions. Affordable homes, clean and safe streets, net zero goals, jobs, education, thriving town centres and strong, resilient communities were at the heart of many of the discussions. Cllr Rowena Hay said: ‘’Meeting the challenges of the next decade will require strengthened relationships and new, improved ways of working. The conference gave us the opportunity to explore what this means collectively, up and down the country, for the benefit of our local communities.’’ #LGAConf24 #LGAConference #LocalGov

I am so proud of the partnership I have formed with Dunelm and so pleased Cheltenham Borough Homes Ltd part of Cheltenham Borough Council can be involved in this amazing Christmas campaign again this year. Exciting times, we are on the market! Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucester City Council have appointed Savills to market the freehold interest in Gloucestershire Airport, which includes 100% of the shares in the operating company, Gloucestershire Airport Limited. Strategically located in a prime position between #Cheltenham and #Gloucester, we are a busy gateway for business travel, flight training and private aviation. Sitting on a 350 acre site we are a thriving aviation and business hub and the UK’s busiest General Aviation airport in 2023 according to the Civil Aviation Authority. Jason Ivey, Managing Director at Gloucestershire Airport, said; “To lead such a diverse and vibrant business such as Gloucestershire Airport is an absolute privilege. Since taking over as the Accountable Manager in July 2023, I have been amazed at the positive team spirit and local support from our based operators and customers. Although both Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucester City Council have been incredibly supportive of the airport over the years, we now enter the next chapter of Gloucestershire Airports story and I can’t wait for the business to fully realise its true potential with the right investor.” Full story in the comments below. 🔽 #GloucestershireAirport #Aviation #BizJets #PilotTraining #GeneralAviation

It is incredible to see the work of Caring for Communities and People, and their efforts to end homelessness through innovation. The Chelpods are a huge step in the wider work to end rough sleeping and will be a valuable option for people who need support. If you have seen or know of someone who is sleeping rough, send an alert via thestreetlink.org.uk #tacklingroughsleeping #endhomelessness
🏠A world beyond homelessness? Together, anything is possible.... To mark World Homeless Day, we invited our supporters to get their first peek at the Chelpods that they have enabled us to purchase through 9 months of fundraising kicked off by our Big Sleep Out 2024 appeal. Since then, with the £100,000+ raised, we have supported 26 households to avoid homelessness, by giving them access to a crisis fund to escape debt, having exhausted all other options. Our – and Gloucestershire’s – first ever Chelpod is built and on site at our HQ in Cheltenham, ready to receive respite to its first occupant before the end of the year. After piloting the first, our second will be ready to go in 2025. As well as being joined on the night by some of our core fundraisers who have made this possible, we also hosted a raft of great speakers – and we express a special thank you to: • Nigel Potter, Housing Strategy and Enabling Officer for Cheltenham Borough Council, for articulating CBC’s vision of ending homelessness, and where our pods fit into achieving this • Angela Edwards, Circle2Success Ltd co-founder, for reinforcing the role that the business community plans in delivering on real social change • Stuart Johnson from Amazing Grace Spaces, for sharing the very personal story behind the design of the pods and why they were created • Councillor Paul Baker, Mayor of Cheltenham, for commending the work of CCP and other charities and agencies striving to prevent homelessness in Cheltenham • Brickhampton Court, for hosting us Finally, we announced that we will be doing it all again at CCP Big Sleep Out 2025 on 27th March! With your help, we can surpass even this year’s £100,000 target and transform more lives of those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. More details will follow, or contact us at marketing@ccp.org.uk for more information 💭 #ThankYou #MakeADifference #Homelessness #HomelessnessPrevention #Gloucestershire #Glosbiz #SouthGloucestershire #Bristol #Devon #Dorset #Wiltshire #Worcestershire #Herefordshire

How can we determine the future of work? Ask the next generation of leaders. This week, we welcomed early-career, high-potential talent from some of the UK’s most influential companies to discuss the ambitions behind Golden Valley. In today’s hybrid world, collaborative environments that engineer serendipity and cater to wellbeing are key to creating compelling, innovative workspaces. Architect Leila Mortimer Gray from Sheppard Robson led us on a virtual walkthrough of Golden Valley, where neurodiversity has been integrated into our design choices. (Check out our recent blog). This inspired conversation about spaces for multi-faith needs, working parents, and individuals with protected characteristics. We also heard from those working in intensive secure environments that creating a beautiful home-away-from-home is crucial—proximity to social, artistic, and health-focused spaces will make all the difference. What do you think the future of work will look like? Thank you to Freya Noonan for planning and organising the day!
