Join us in celebrating 15 Years of City Year UK 🎉 2024 marks our 15th anniversary. In 2009 the City Year UK pilot started with seven trailblazing young volunteers who were inspired by a simple offer: ‘Give a year. Change the world - by supporting children in your own community’. Our organisation has since expanded in the West Midlands in 2013 followed by Greater Manchester in 2015. ⭐ Since 2009, City Year UK has trained and supported over 1,800 young adults to coach and mentor over 17,000 pupils in need of extra help and contributed to a positive learning environment for over 136,000 children. 🙌 To celebrate this momentous occasion we want to share inspirational stories from across those 15 years, demonstrating the incredible impact our mentors have made in the lives of the children and young people we serve. 🚀 Have you volunteered with us in the past or perhaps have had a City Year mentor throughout school who shaped who you are today? We'd love to hear from you. 🫵 🔗Head to our website to find out how you can get in touch with us and share your City Year story: https://lnkd.in/euCKe6Vk #CityYearUK #15Years #15thAnniversary #VolunteerImpact #MentoringMatters #EducationMatters #MakeADifference #InspiringStories #CelebratingSuccess

Tackling educational inequality through voluntary mentoring
About us
City Year UK is a youth and education charity which empowers diverse 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time volunteering in schools. Our vision is of a society where the transformative power of full-time social action in schools is an integral part of growing up in the UK; supporting every child and young person to achieve their full potential. City Year mentors inspire, coach and tutor children of all ages to overcome social, emotional and academic barriers to learning and, by realising pupils’ potential, realise their own. Often volunteering in their own communities, they gain real world experience, standout skills and new networks that will set them up for any career. City Year UK's volunteers are integral to the school day. They encourage pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, while developing their own skills. Our volunteers benefit from additional training, delivered by experts from across the education, business and voluntary sectors. City Year was first established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 and operates in 27 cities across America, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa. City Year UK launched in London in 2010 and has since expanded to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.

Back in early October, we were delighted to welcome 15 #ArdianVolunteers to Weavers Adventure Playground as part of the Ardian Global Citizens Day, where they took part in a day of volunteering to create beautiful murals, storage carts and sandwich boards for the centre in Bethnal Green. 🌟 Despite the rain, the Ardian volunteers had a fantastic and eventful day working alongside our CY Mentors. We were so pleased to see their creations take shape and know that they will have a great impact for Weavers Adventure Playground and the children who use the centre! 🛠️ Huge THANK YOU to Ardian for their dedication and hard work! 🔗Head to our website to find out how our mentors are making an impact in their school communities: https://lnkd.in/emwJdwqC

City Year UK provides you with the opportunity to develop your skills and reach your potential. 📈 When joining our programme last year, former City Year Mentor Akanksha said that public speaking was one of the primary areas she wanted to develop. This year as a graduate of City Year UK, Akanksha delivered an inspiring talk to our new City Year mentors at their Red Jacket Ceremony. 🙌 Akanksha is one of many inspiring individuals who used their time at City Year UK, to succeed in meeting their personal goals. ⭐ 🔗Head to our website or message us to learn how City Year UK can help you unlock your potential - https://lnkd.in/e2dtXezr #Mentorship #PersonalDevelopment #PublicSpeaking #YouthEmpowerment #ProfessionalGrowth #InspiringStories

October is ADHD Awareness Month! 🌈🦋 Did you know around 1 in 20 young people in the UK has ADHD? Students with ADHD are 3 times more likely to struggle academically, and up to 40% may experience exclusion from school. At City Year UK our mission is to help young people overcome barriers to learning by supporting them within schools. We believe that increasing the awareness and understanding of ADHD can help ensure that every student gets the right support they need for the best education possible. 🙌 Let’s work together to create inclusive classrooms where all young people can thrive! 💪📚 Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA) 🔗Head to our website to learn how we’re supporting young people in education: https://lnkd.in/eW7tJxcC #ADHDAwareness #CityYearUK #SupportYouthEducation #EducationForAll #Neurodiversity #MentalHealthAwareness #ADHDSupport

Leah and our Team Inspiration mentors are doing a fantastic fundraiser for Birmingham Children's Hospital, as part of their Social Action Project. 🌟 Check the post below for more details and for info on how you can donate. 👇
Hi LinkedIn Family, I’m currently doing my placement year at City Year UK and my team and I are working on our Social Action Project. We are aiming to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) to help fund the hospital, the children’s treatment and any other facilities that may be present in BCH. Please donate whatever you can, even a small donation of £1 can make a massive difference to a child. They need the community to support them, their parents and medical professionals. This project is quite important to our team as we work with young children in school settings on a daily basis and would wish for them to get the best treatment should anything affect their health. We would appreciate any donations you can drop into this page and would appreciate it if you could share our link to anyone you know. Thank you! ☺️ https://gofund.me/59c71d18

To celebrate #BHM24, our Manchester-based mentors in Team Aspire have created school notice boards for their students that spotlight important black figures! ⭐ These include athletes, musicians, and important figures throughout history. Also, in keeping with this year's theme of #ReclaimingNarratives they’ve featured films that focus on black history and experiences. ✊🏽 🔗Head to our website to learn more about the work we do in schools: https://lnkd.in/eW7tJxcC #ReclaimingNarratives #BlackHistoryMonthUK #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #CityYearUK #AmplifyVoices#DiversityMatters #BHM #BHM24

Today is International Day of the Girl, and I’m supporting Inspiring Girls International’s #ThisLittleGirlIsMe campaign that’s working towards inspiring all the little girls out there. This little girl is me at five, holding my favourite teddy (Musa) and dressed like a ballerina💕 Girl you’d be so proud of me today!! If I could go back 19 years, my advice to you would be: don’t be afraid to be you. Deep down you’re such a people pleaser, and you can worry wayyyy too much about what others might think. None of that matters compared to how happy you deserve to be - so just focus on living your life to the full. You’ve just figured out how to do that at 24 now and you’re really living your best life💗 #ThisLittleGirlIsMe City Year UK

We’re pleased to see the Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy's positive announcement regarding the Civil Society Covenant Framework. At NCS, we work with, and fund, many civil society partners who provide invaluable services for young people, helping us work towards a more cohesive and socially mobile society. We look forward to continuing to work with Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the wider government, particularly on issues that impact the lives of young people, as this framework develops. Read more about the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/e2kgb635?
“By harnessing the dynamism, innovation and trusted reach of civil society organisations, we can boost growth and deliver better outcomes for communities right across the country” That was the message of Keir Starmer yesterday afternoon who, alongside Lisa Nandy, hosted a No 10 roundtable discussion and reception with key civil society representatives from across the UK.
