A total of £30,000 has been allocated to community groups in two areas of Cleveland to build resilience 🌟 RISE funding from the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV), is supporting 11 organisations across the Ropner ward in Stockton and the Newport ward in Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough's Welcome Foundation received one of the RISE small grants. The charity is committed to alleviating poverty among refugees, asylum seekers and their families by providing essential food hampers and resources such as interpreters and legal advice. They also carry out weekly house visits, counselling sessions, meditation and Zoom meetings to host education and mental health wellbeing sessions. 💗 At the end of each month, staff organise family fun days in venues across Middlesbrough to bring the community together over a warm meal and live music. All this week, Cleveland Police (UK) has been celebrating police staff - men and women, who support the police to do their job and help victims to report crime. 🥂 The force currently has a vacancy for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) - a staff job that makes a real difference to our communities. This front line job provides a visible police presence on the streets and helps to tackle antisocial behaviour. PCSOs are also a vital part of #NeighbourhoodPolicing 👮 To apply, go to: https://bit.ly/4bvssDe #ClevelandPoliceUK #Police #PCSO #Antisocialbehaviour

New measures to protect victims of domestic abuse in Cleveland ❤️🩹 Victims and their friends, families or support workers in the area can apply for a Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) at Teesside Combined Court Centre from today. DAPOs can provide stronger protection for victims, as they can impose exclusion zones through tagging and mandate attendance at behaviour change programmes. PCC Matt Storey has welcomed today's news 💬 He said: "I will be closely monitoring how the use of these new orders in the Cleveland Police area helps to keep victims and survivors safe.”

It's #NoMoreWeek - a week of raising awareness to end #domesticabuse and #sexualviolence Cleveland PCC Matt Storey is leading on a Tees-wide Perpetration Strategy to ensure domestic abuse perpetrators are held to account for violence and abuse committed against women and girls. The strategy will reinforce the message that causing harm is wholly the responsibility of the perpetrator. A multi-agency strategy that engages communities has been agreed between the PCC, Cleveland Police and leaders of the four local authorities across Cleveland. The strategy’s key priorities are to: Prevent – by encouraging people to recognise, respond and refer concerns as early as possible; Protect – by identifying perpetrators and holding abuse behaviour to account; Pursue – by using protective measures to disrupt and prosecute perpetrators. On International Sex Workers' Rights Day, PCC Matt Storey has re-affirmed his commitment to the Proceed Without Caution campaign. The campaign calls for historical convictions for sex work to be exempt from disclosure to potential employers. That means previous sex work-related convictions would not act as a barrier to sex workers moving on and taking up other forms of employment – particularly those, which require vetting checks. Matt has written to Government Ministers Jess Phillips and Shabana Mamood, asking them to back the campaign. Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls Jess Phillips has pledged to review how the Government can help people move on from past convictions while still protecting the public. #Violenceagainstwomenandgirls #Globalsexwork

“He said it was my fault because I was drunk.” Sexual abuse and harassment is never the fault of the victim! ❌ Night-time venues are often where incidents happen and women and girls are more likely to be targeted than men. Bars, pubs, clubs and taxi drivers around Teesside are working with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland, Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council and other local councils to help tackle the issue. Remember to speak to staff you feel unsafe or spot someone who needs help, or call 999 in an emergency. 🗣️
