Last year at #COP28UAE, Smita Sanghrajka, Engagement Partner for the Mastercard Foundation Fund for Resilience and Prosperity spoke about the need for innovative financing mechanisms to support sustainability in agriculture. The Agribusiness Challenge is one such intervention by the Fund now accepting applications from established SMEs that can create work opportunities for young people at scale. On 27 June 2024, #TransitionArc launched at the Climate Innovation Forum. In a packed room at the Guildhall in London, industry leaders came together for an animated discussion on the barriers, solutions, and tools needed to accelerate corporate transition.    Key themes that emerged from our panel sessions:    1. Convergence is key for those working in data, disclosure and transition frameworks, to enable effective decision making in the real economy. As Jaakko Kooroshy from LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) said: "Investors are looking for sources of truth on climate. It can be like putting a puzzle together, but different puzzles and all with missing pieces... Transition Arc does this work for them."  2. To drive action and ensure a virtuous circle where disclosure and data improve one another, empowering decision makers through data and analysis is crucial.   As Vicky Sins from World Benchmarking Alliance said,   "TransitionArc makes assessments transparently available, drives accountability further, gets to as many users as possible and drives financial flows, pushing these companies to be Paris-aligned."    3. To move as fast as we need to, ‘unholy alliances’ will need to be formed, with a multi-dimensional approach to technology integration and metric expansion. What is the role of artificial intelligence, for example? Or accessing undisclosed information through satellite imagery? We are addressing these questions and many more in partnership with the wider climate finance ecosystem. TransitionArc is constantly evolving and expanding to increase its usefulness for a range of stakeholders. We recently announced a new partnership with the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute and XDI (Cross Dependency Initiative), bringing adaptation and physical risk analysis into the tool.    Huge thanks to all our incredible partners!    TransitionArc is a unique collaboration between world-leading corporate climate data and analysis providers including Carbon Tracker, CDP, Corporate Knights, Global Canopy, InfluenceMap The International Council on Clean Transportation, Science Based Targets initiative, Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) and World Benchmarking Alliance.    Read more about the discussion: https://lnkd.in/ekFrFYFU

"There are market integrity initiatives in place, there are good projects, there are good initiatives, like LEAF, that exist - and if we don't galvanize action now, if we don't take steps to engage, we're missing a huge opportunity. There's a risk of inaction. We need to use all of the tools at our disposal, and that includes a high integrity carbon market." Edwina McKechnie, Emergent 's Executive Vice President of Corporate Engagement, joined VCMI's Executive Director, Mark Kenber and Howden's Head of Carbon Insurance, Charlie Pool at the Climate Innovation Forum during London Climate Action Week in June, to discuss "Using market-based mechanisms to increase integrity in carbon markets".   Edwina speaks to the importance of high integrity #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets to incentivise action and unlock the billions of dollars of private sector finance needed to protect and restore tropical forests and effectively meet climate goals.   Catch up with the panel and other events from the Climate Innovation Forum here: https://lnkd.in/dsgh9Dmc #ClimateAction #LCAW #LEAFCoalition

Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, COP28 Director-General, participated in a session at the Climate Innovation Forum on “Turning COP28 Commitments into Action”. During the discussion, he highlighted the climate finance gap, the importance of de-risking, and mobilizing private finance into emerging markets and developing economies. He also explained the role of ALTERRA in achieving these goals and the need to move from commitment to implementation on the UAE Consensus. #COP28 #UAEConsensus #LCAW2024

  • It was a pleasure partnering with you, Kate Warren, and hearing your excellent and positive conversation with Andrew Steer of Bezos Earth Fund!

Executive Vice President & Executive Editor at Devex

Devex was honored to be a media partner again with the Climate Action | Innovation Forum, this time in London, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Bezos Earth Fund President and CEO Andrew Steer. As steward of Bezos' $10B fund for climate action, Andrew, who you can imagine is a popular guy among those looking for funds, takes this responsibility seriously. A few takeaways from our conversation: - Risk-Taking: Philanthropy can take bold risks on new innovations and ideas without answering to shareholders, investors, or taxpayers. - Localized Scaling: Effective climate solutions must scale globally but be adaptable to the unique needs and contexts of local communities. - Catalytic Partner: Philanthropy serves not just as a purse but as a strategic partner, uniquely positioned to collaborate with and catalyze efforts by government, civil society, and the private sector.

  • It was a delight to host global leaders and senior practitioners at yesterday's Climate Innovation Forum! Thank you to all those who participated, met, shared and engaged. Yesterday was a ripple. But, to echo the words of Bobby Kennedy, "a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance" #CIF24
