Radio planning today

About us

CloudRF develops scalable radio planning software for operators and engineers . We innovate interfaces and APIs for established and emerging RF markets like the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, autonomous vehicles, drones, smart cities and blue light services. Established in 2012 as an app, we have developed a market leading SaaS platform and propagation API in use with Governments, industry, academia and NGOs. Our software is available as a public service or a self hosted server and can be used for any technology from long range HF to high fidelity mmWave. With GPU acceleration, we can model an entire network in a single API call with 3D antenna patterns, configurable clutter and diffraction.

HF Skywave will be available in November. By popular request, we've integrated the VOACAP engine into our API to provide frequency prediction and area coverage. By using a mature propagation engine in our scalable architecture this increasingly critical capability can be integrated into different clients, starting with our own 3D interface. HF will be a free upgrade, available to all plans.

We were asked if our 3D engine could model DAS in an office and would we need a floorplan: Currently you can do it through our Blender plugin with a 3D model. When we launch the official UI, you'll do this from a web interface. It's not as quick and pretty as a 2D tool but gives the full picture as honestly, indoor multipath is messy!

This week, we had the privilege of collaborating with the RAF RCO Airborne Experimentation Unit to advance air-to-ground communications during a series of flight trials. Over three days of intensive experimentation, we tested our Omega Three Panel and Sigma Range antennas, achieving significant improvements in airborne antenna directionality during various flight manoeuvres. A major focus was on the Sigma Range antennas' capability to enhance air-to-ground links with personnel. The results were outstanding—more than doubling the range compared to a standard in-service dipole antenna. The trials also demonstrated the absence of an overhead null, allowing continuous connectivity even when the aircraft was directly overhead. On the aircraft side, the Omega Three showcased its versatility as a conformable antenna, covering 280MHz to 6GHz for a broad range of operational needs, delivering omnidirectional coverage with minimal aerodynamic impact. “This week the RAF RCO AEU with support from AiX have completed some very interesting experimentation with Far Field Exploits. This Experimentation has furthered development of highly versatile Flat Panel Antennas. This, again is a great example of RAF and Industry SME collaboration to further UK and Allied warfighter applicable technology” – Prof, Patrick J Baker – Head Science RAF RCO AEU & AiX. A big thank you to the RAF RCO Airborne Experimentation Unit and the CloudRF team for their collaboration and support in making this a successful project!

SOOTHSAYER 1.8 is out now. It's our second feature release of the year and now that we've retired the big ol' VM the download has shrunk from 12GB to 200MB, you can share your GPU and get more control over patching and data. New Features: 🏠 3D Multipath 🛰 Satellite coverage 🚁 General Purpose Model ✈ Flight path route analysis 🐜 Dozens of bugfixes - thanks for the reports. A feature summary and change log is on the blog here: https://lnkd.in/enf4xe_W Lastly, to counter the (half true) rumour that it takes days to install, we've broken protocol and put the 9 minute install video on youtube 😉 https://lnkd.in/e4Gh_tGA

We've taken the decision to retire our SOOTHSAYER virtual machine build in favour of SOOTHSAYER containers, starting with the next release (1.8) due soon. It has become clear from feedback that installing containers is easier than the VM due to the pain of GPU pass through. Using containers instead of a VM has the following advantages: + Share your GPU with other apps + Root or rootless access with Docker/Podman + Keep libraries up to date with regular re-builds + Compliant with modern (container) architectures + Small download: 200MB vs 12GB + Support more hosts: Hypervisors, cloud, desktop, laptop, industrial PCs... We're supporting any VMs with active maintenance contracts and if you would like to swap out your VM for containers, get in touch.

Our founder, Alex Farrant, has been in Australia supporting our new partner, Nova Systems Australia and New Zealand talking Mining, Spectrum regulation, Theory training, Wind farms, and EW at AOC Australia, a first for our little company. We received excellent feedback on SOOTHSAYER's GPU speed and container architecture and Rx'd the HF message QSA5 along with detailed requirements for our roadmap. We hope in return we raised the profile of #ATAK down under and opened some eyes. Thank you Nova for laying on a great week and for spotlighting our unique capabilities to your clients. 👍

"Innovating Through Uncertainty" We are proud to sponsor and participate in the AOC Australia Conference, bringing together Australia’s electromagnetic spectrum (EMS), cyber, and information operations community. Managing Director Andrew Mannix, along with EMS experts Dr Kasun T., Glenn Odlum and Florian Sindel, have been among the speakers this week with a focus on the theme "Innovating Through Uncertainty." Access to the electromagnetic spectrum is becoming increasingly complex. It's important because we all rely on it in our daily - from making phone calls to protecting the nation through complex defence systems. At Nova, we are harnessing emerging technologies and strategies such as AI, Machine Learning, digital engineering, and modelling and simulation to tackle the challenges. Our industry-leading EMS team excels in spectrum management for both Defence and civilian sectors. #WeAreNova #AOC24

Mounting a cell panel horizontally might look weird but makes sense when you see the squashed pattern in 3D. If you need to serve a dense local area like a stadium or reach steep angles like a local tower, it is an effective design choice. 💡 To demo this we've published two interactive demos to our 3D model gallery which you can explore and download for use with glTF apps. Vertical polarisation: https://lnkd.in/e3bHrm3r Horizontal polarisation: https://lnkd.in/ega83hpy Demo created using an Alpha Wireless AW3162 pattern on the CloudRF 3D API at 40cm resolution with 5 reflections.

A UHF radio in a 130ft control tower at an airport is a good site but still no guarantee of communication with local ground units. 😮 This week we've been busy preparing 1m LiDAR for airports to help improve coverage at ground level, required for safety and security.
