Colin Bell, COBIS CEO, was delighted to attend the Latin American Heads Conference in Lima, Peru. The conference provided valuable discussions on the work of the International Task Force on Child Protection (ITFCP) and the British International Schools Safeguarding Coalition (BISSC), both of which COBIS is proud to be a member of. #safeguarding
Thank you and congratulations to Alan Downie, Maureen Fleming the LAHC team; plus Nick Eatough, Rector of The Grange School Chile, for hosting, curating and delivering an excellent annual conference for all. Great to connect with many established and new friends. Highlights included an exhilarating concert from the LAHC band and choir, made up of 160 talented students from 14 different LAHC member schools. This superb student concert was performed at The Grange School, which is a world leading school, with dedicated staff, an impressive history and a truly beautiful, botanic garden like campus. This uniquely attractive learning and teaching environment sits close to the magnificent Andean mountain range, in Santiago, one of the most vibrant cities in Latin America. Conference provided opportunity to disseminate/discuss the ongoing work of the International Task Force on Child Protection (ITFCP) and the British International Schools Safeguarding Coalition (BISSC). Working on the principles of 1) stronger together 2) there is no safeguarding finish line and 3) safeguarding has no international borders; the LAHC network, in partnership with other associations, is clearly committed to contributing to and strengthening the ITFCP and BISCC - to reduce risk to children and young people, to identify/address training needs and to share good practice worldwide. Plus, key note speakers Dr. Jim Heal, Dr. Kaisa Vuorinen and Gonzalo Muñoz Abogabir CMG explored the conference theme of ‘Leading with the Head and the Heart’, to highlight the importance of harnessing cognitive science to maximise learning/performance, the power of positivity/kindness and the negative impact of the triple environmental climate emergency connected to loss of diversity, climate change and pollution. With a Santiago spring in my step and plenty of actions to crack on with, the Grange School motto of ‘Nunquam Non Paratus’ is certainly resonating; ‘Never Unprepared, Ever Ready, Always Ready’. Thank you again to Alan, Maureen, Nick, Grange School students/staff, Patrick Lyons Craighouse School Chile and it’s students/staff and all connected to LAHC. Safe travels to all who participated and continue to shine.
