Natalie has been volunteering as a bereavement counsellor since 2023, providing a compassionate and confidential space for those coping with loss. She said, “I understand that grief is a deeply personal journey and that everyone experiences it differently. It can feel overwhelming and isolating, but having a safe space to talk can make a real difference. I feel privileged to support people, helping them explore their emotions, find their own way forward, and feel less alone in their grief.” Join #TeamCompton If you’ve been inspired by Natalie, we have a number of volunteering opportunities available where you can share your skills and make a difference: https://lnkd.in/enwkZebt

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge is a fantastic way to support both Compton Care and the Wolves Foundation while scaling the scenic Yorkshire Dales. Here Naomi talks about her reason for signing up and joining us on 14 June to take on this 24-mile challenge. "I have always wanted to do a challenge and put myself outside of my comfort zone and when I saw the Wolves Foundation advertise, I was like let's do it! Two amazing charities who help the local community through various stages of life. I do not have a personal connection to either charity, but my dad works for the Wolves Foundation, and I always hear of the amazing work they do for the community, and I have many close friends whose family members have been supported by Compton Care" Would you like to join Naomi and be one of our Hiking Heroes this year? We are delighted to announce Brendon Turner, son of the late Lord Bilston, Dennis Turner, as our newest ambassador. Brendon has been a dedicated supporter of Compton Care since his father received care following a cancer diagnosis. Lord Bilston, a former Labour MP for Wolverhampton South East, passed away in February 2014 at the age of 71. Brendon’s experience with Compton inspired him to establish the ‘Lord Bilston Challenge’ in 2014. This biennial, physically and mentally demanding fundraising event has since raised an incredible £150,000 for Compton Care. Reflecting on his motivation for supporting Compton Care, Brendon said: “I was truly touched, inspired and humbled by the work that Compton did on behalf of my family. There aren’t enough words to express how indebted we are to Compton for the amazing care and support they showed, not only to my dad but to the whole family. No amount of money could ever fully repay the love and dedication shown by Compton’s nurses. When the inevitable happened, we couldn't have wished for a more caring, conscientious and experienced team of professionals to look after my dad in his time of need. “I wanted to organise an event that represented a real challenge, like the one that Compton staff and patients face daily. Since 2014, it has been an absolute honour and privilege to raise vital funds for the charity, helping ensure it can continue supporting local families during their darkest times. The Lord Bilston Challenge brings people together for a common cause - something my dad always believed in. His legacy lives on through this philosophy. Thank you for the inspiration, Dad. I’m thrilled to become a Compton Care Ambassador and look forward to raising further awareness of the charity’s essential work.” The next Lord Bilston Challenge starts on 24 July until 27 July. Over four demanding days, this year’s challenge will cover scaling the three highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon, totalling 28 miles of hiking followed by 560 miles of cycling from Ben Nevis back to Wolverhampton. Training begins at the end of March for the 27 brave participants, who are aiming to raise £40,000 in support of Compton Care. Previous Challenges have included a cycle, hike and canoe challenge, tackling the famous Hardknott Pass, paddle boarding Lake Windemere and an open water swim in Lake Bala. Nothing is too much of a challenge for the Lord Bilston Team! For more information see https://lnkd.in/eJsbamKY

Last week we attended the Palliative Care Congress in Belfast. These events offer invaluable opportunities to enhance our expertise, advocate for better care, network and collaborate, and showcase our work. The event attracts over 500 delegates from around the world from a diverse multidisciplinary background, and this year’s event explored the theme of ‘Looking back, moving forwards.’ We were delighted to host a symposium at the event: Paramedics in Palliative Care. A look into the development of the role and what the future holds for the role within the speciality. We also showcased four posters.
