On quite a frosty and cold morning in Newcastle, we were excited to have been a part of the Sunday For Sammy 25th Birthday held at the County Hotel. It was a packed out room with a few special guests including Tim Healy and our Mayor Kim McGuinness. The guests shared their gratitude towards what Sunday for Sammy have done for them over the years. Announcements were made to future events including the return of Sunday for Sammy at the Arena in February 2026 along with two new Patrons of the charity. 📢 Infrastructure Regional & National Highly Commended 2024 - Sunderland Railway Station 📢 The Sunderland Railway Station was a live reconstruction of an existing fixture ensuring there was minimal disruption for the general public and client. An example of this was over two weeks of nightshifts the trusses were installed avoiding disruption and risks to the timetables. 3D modelling and movement monitoring to ensure stability of an existing Victorian structure was used through bespoke Health + Safety standards developed by both parties for the project. This was achieved by upskilling all of the supply chain and training meetings which resulted in 56,000 safe working hours on site. A whole team collaborative approach was enabled from the outset by bringing in the client and supply chain through regular safety meetings, training opportunities, inviting local college for work experience as well as including the community to ensure they delivered a project not just fit for the client but for the community. If so, have a read of some helpful tips below from our esteemed judges to assist when answering those questions ❓ Answer the questions - keep referring to the criteria – have you answered the ‘exam question’ 🔢 Give us some tangible statistics rather than just all the words of a description we can only compare when we have stats to compare for certain questions 🫂 Show the collaboration. Work with ALL the project team to gather the evidence required. REMEMBER to include all of the design and construction team (including all designers, Principal designer, specialist subcontractors, subcontractor design etc) 📢 Stick to word limits! 🖼️ Use relevant and high quality images 🖥️ If attending interviews bring a good cross section of the team (client/contractor/designer at least) 🐝 Try not to be blinded by buzzy words – the judges look on what has been done / impact, not an organisations copywriting ability. This was successfully achieved through training to upskill the supply chain including 3D BIM Models, sharing of information, adoption of health and safety and wellbeing areas, safety courses and an open policy where staff could be listened to. The creation of 10 new jobs were formed, participated in summer work experience, careers events to promote the industry and presentations were delivered to students.
