About us

The Cool Farm Alliance (CFA) is a science-led, not-for-profit membership organisation (community interest company) that owns, manages, and improves the Cool Farm Tool (CFT) and cultivates the leadership network to advance regenerative agriculture at scale. The Cool Farm Alliance growing membership includes many of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, NGOs, academic institutions, farmer groups and agronomists. The Cool Farm Tool engages and empowers users through quantification and modelling “what-if” scenarios covering on-farm greenhouse gas emissions, carbon sequestration, biodiversity, water and food loss and waste. Cool Farm Alliance members share the need for a respected, consistent, standardised, independent calculation engine and have joined the Alliance to ensure the Cool Farm Tool meets this need, now and in the future. It is registered in the UK.

Meet Aashvi Shah, our Science Intern🌟 Join her as she reflects on her adventure with Cool Farm Alliance. From navigating remote work to juggling life as an international student, and making a real impact on Cool Farm Alliance’s mission. 🌱 Here’s a glimpse of Aashvi’s journey below 👇 "Working with Cool Farm Alliance has been an incredible experience. The team's passion for their work is truly inspiring and shines brightly in everything they do. As someone quite early in my career—having just completed my first year—the opportunity for a paid internship was invaluable. The application and interview process was smooth, with clear feedback and well-set expectations.   Additionally, remote working as an international student had its advantages because it meant I could be home and still contribute. The team’s understanding helped me learn more about different communication styles and dynamics. I had the chance to contribute to various projects and shape my role with a balance of independence and support.   Despite working remotely, I never felt isolated thanks to the kindness and welcoming nature of the team - thank you so much to Megan McKerchar, PhD and Kandia Appadoo (ACIM) for giving me this opportunity!"

In early July, our very own Megan McKerchar, PhD and Michaela Aschbacher from Cool Farm Alliance, set off on an inspiring journey to Uganda. Why? To train and exchange valuable insights with farmers, local programme leaders, and field officers, working alongside the global network organisation, and Cool Farm Alliance member, Solidaridad Network. From the lush coffee and palm regions of Masaka to the serene tea plantations of Bushenyi, Megan McKerchar, PhD and Michaela Aschbacher immersed themselves in the Uganda’s lush farming landscape.     Some highlights:  🌍 Real World Application: visiting smallholder farms confirmed the Cool Farm Tool’s global applicability, though it also underscored the need for local data inputs.  🌴 Exploring New Crop Types: we gained valuable insights into how tea and palm oil plantations can be integrated into our model.  🤝 Cultural Exchange: the warmth, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of Ugandan farmers was truly inspiring  The highlight? Meeting farmers like Maclean, who are leading the way with innovative practices and community empowerment. Their dedication and creativity are the true drivers of regenerative agriculture.    This experience reaffirmed our commitment to making complex scientific tools accessible to those who need them most.
