Proud to support Timothy Syndrome Alliance and mark #CACNA1C Awareness Day

Today is #CACNA1C #AwarenessDay. Please show your support by sharing this post. We are hoping we can be loud all over the world. (This reel can be found in multiple languages on our YouTube account). CACNA1C-related disorders  -> Are rare genetic disorders -> Affect an unknown number worldwide -> Can result in life-threatening health problems -> are often misdiagnosed -> currently have no cure TSA supports CACNA1C globally from the UK. We promote #research to understand how the gene changes cause symptoms and to develop therapies and treatments. CACNA1C-related disorders, including #TimothySyndrome and #LongQT8, are multisystemic and individuals found to have any CACNA1C gene change (including those with Variants of Uncertain Significance #VUS) should receive cardiac, developmental, psychiatric, endocrine (particularly diabetic) and neurological (epilepsy) screening. This however is currently not understood nor advocated for by key bodies including the National Health Service (NHS), something we are working on. For more information about our work please watch the latest film ‘Connections’ (found on our website, here and YouTube), a collaboration between the Timothy Syndrome Alliance (TSA) and Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, we explore the importance of connections between individuals and families with lived experience of CACNA1C-related disorders (CRDs) and Timothy Syndrome (TS), academics, clinical teams and researchers. The more links we make, the stronger our network becomes and the faster we grow our understanding of our #raredisease. Without connections, we can't grow or learn. #RareDiseases #Awareness #calcium #ionchannels #channelopathies

Back in February 2024 we launched our second call for projects focused on rare diseases, where we pledged to support non-profit organisations, free-of-charge, to develop evidence towards or advocate for improved access to healthcare and treatments for people with rare diseases. We are now supporting 11 incredible non-profit organisations in the UK and US. These collaborations span a broad range of skills, including both our medical communication and technical skills, allowing us to leverage our expertise to truly make a difference! We are proud to work on projects like these, which support and empower charities and non-profit organisations. If your non-profit could benefit from pro bono scientific support, please contact Lucy Eddowes for more information. #probono #givingback #charity #nonprofit #rarediseases

    MSc. Global Health

Reflecting on My Global Health Internship Journey   As I wrap up my Global Health Internship (GHI) with Costello Medical this week, I’m excited to share highlights from my journey and reflect on the past three months.   My global health journey began in 2019 with a conference on health and diaspora in Abuja, Nigeria. My passion for exploring how the migration of healthcare professionals impacts health systems led me to launch Medlabconvo in 2019, supporting emerging healthcare students and young healthcare professionals, and was the driving force behind my completing a Master’s in Global Health Delivery at University of Global Health Equity in 2023. During this time I expressed a desire to work in Singapore, which led Theodora Khofi to share the GHI opportunity with me. While I was successful in my application, logistical challenges redirected me to the UK team instead. This unexpected shift proved to be incredibly rewarding. I remained focused on brain drain in African healthcare and, through working with Aditi Mehta, my project approach pivoted from a full-scale systematic review to a targeted literature review, better aligning with my research objectives by allowing for a more focused analysis. Additionally, the mentorship from and collaboration with Kerris Chappell-Smith, Kallista C., and Debbie Nixon, along with the company’s learning platform and divisional meetings, significantly enhanced my research skills. Presenting my findings in London and Cambridge was a standout moment, allowing me to share my work with fellow interns and colleagues across the company. This internship provided me with the unique opportunity to delve into a critical issue and complete a targeted literature review independently, building on skills learned from my Master’s studies. The GHI program is invaluable for graduates from low-resource settings, offering practical exposure and skill development. I encourage anyone interested to apply.   As I move forward, I’m grateful for the incredible support and guidance I received. I look forward to exploring new opportunities and applying the knowledge gained from this enriching experience. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way!   #CostelloMedicalGHI #GlobalHealth #Internship #Healthcare #Research #ProfessionalDevelopment #BrainDrain #HealthWorkforce #CareerGrowth

📣 Speakers announced for the upcoming #RareDiseases webinar! Later this month, we will explore how the healthcare sector can better integrate the patient voice into Health Technology Assessment (HTA) decision-making. We'll discuss how industry and HTA bodies can best support patient involvement in a rapidly evolving European HTA landscape. This webinar will also address the key barriers patient groups face during the reimbursement process and offer practical solutions for enhancing their engagement. We will aim to: ➡️ Understand barriers to patient involvement in the reimbursement process. ➡️ Explore how industry and HTA agencies can compliantly enable greater integration of the patient voice in HTAs, starting early in the process. ➡️ Discuss how patient involvement in HTA is expected to evolve with the changing European reimbursement landscape and how initiatives can be updated to ensure continued participation. Don’t miss out on this important conversation with our expert speakers 👉https://lnkd.in/d7dbWhPi #HTA #PatientEngagement #PatientVoice Costello Medical

Our team collaborated with Acrodysostosis Support and Research to: 1.   Create a healthcare professional information leaflet to increase awareness of Acrodysostosis. 2.   Host a roundtable meeting for members of the Acrodysostosis community and medical experts from around the world to discuss issues that are important to the developing research and treatment of the disease. The roundtable facilitated new connections and collaboration amongst researchers, helping towards the submission and acceptance of four research projects worth almost £2 million. See what Nina Knight, Founder of Acrodysostosis Support & Research had to say about working with Costello Medical: “Thank you for helping Acrodysostosis Support & Research with two projects that we would NOT have been able to do without you. Both projects will change and improve the lives of people affected by Acrodysostosis now and in many years to come.” Costello Medical is committed to continuing its exciting and impactful work with patient groups and charities, focusing on improving outcomes for patients across a wide range of disease areas. For more information or to learn how we can support your patient engagement efforts, please reach out to Emma Phillips. #patientengagement #patientcentricity #patientadvocacy #patientimpact #patientexperience #acrodysostosis #AcrodysostosisSupportResearch
