💡 Prioritising Bold Conversations in Diabetes Care A recent PPP webinar brought together leading voices in diabetes care to discuss how we can tackle the rising challenges in this field.  The rising prevalence of diabetes, particularly of type 2 cases, is placing an ever-growing strain on the NHS. So the question is: are we ready for bold conversations or more of the same? Key takeaways from the discussion include: ➡️ Expanding care capacity through better use of clinical time and innovative technology ➡️ Leveraging data-driven interventions with Population Health Management (PHM) to deliver smarter, more targeted care ➡️ Rethinking funding models to support long-term prevention strategies rather than short-term gains Read more on how system leaders can make a difference in the future of diabetes care in our latest article👉 https://lnkd.in/di_v_NVG 🤝 Abbott

♻️ The design for life roadmap – a circular future of UK med-tech The UK government’s new initiative supports the design, procurement and processing of medical products in a way that enables them to be reused, remanufactured or recycled. Greater circularity in the UK health sector will foster growth and innovation, improve patient care, build NHS resilience, create better value for healthcare spending, and minimise environmental impacts. By addressing six fundamental challenge areas, the programme will aim to deliver a circular system by 2045: 🤝 Leadership and alignment 🧠 Behavioural change 💰 Commercial incentivisation 📜 Regulations and standards 🛠️ Physical and digital infrastructure 💡 Transformative innovation The roadmap proposes 30 actions to tackle these challenges, some of which are ready to implement, whilst others require significant further research. 🗣️ Join Dr Penny Dash, Chair of @North West London Integrated Care System, at the #IntegratedCareDeliveryForum2024! Dr Penny Dash will deliver the closing keynote address of the Forum and discuss 'The future of health and care regulation'. 🔍 The findings from Dr Penny Dash’s ongoing review into the Care Quality Commission have already had a seismic impact, leading to claims of a “crisis” within the CQC and prompting the new Health Secretary to suggest the regulator is “unfit for purpose”. As Dr Dash’s review illustrates, effective health and care transformation is reliant upon a robust, fair and responsible regulatory and inspection regime. With inspections for integrated care systems being paused, fundamental questions remain about how the development and delivery of integrated care are evaluated and regulated. Dr Dash will provide a timely keynote address to the Integrated Care Delivery Forum on November 5th to discuss this and look ahead to the next phase of her evaluation of health and care regulation and wider approaches to patient safety across the NHS. Alongside Prostate Cancer UK, we are proud to have sponsored the "Reducing Variation in Prostate Cancer Care” policy report. Organised and published by Public Policy Projects (PPP), the report highlights the need to address inequalities in prostate cancer outcomes across the UK and calls for immediate actions to reduce the high variation in diagnosis, treatment access and patient support in prostate cancer care through multidisciplinary collaboration. Launched at the PPP’s Cancer Care Conference this month in London, the report draws attention to key insights including: 🔍 Early Diagnosis Disparities: A staggering 35% of patients in Scotland are diagnosed too late for curative treatment, compared to just 12.5% in London. (Source: data from Prostate Cancer UK) 👨🏾🦱 Risk Factors: Black men and those with a family history of prostate, breast, or ovarian cancers are at higher risk, emphasising the need for targeted awareness campaigns. 🩺 PSA (prostate-specific antigen) Testing: Men over 50 can request PSA tests from their GPs. However, public awareness on testing eligibility is lacking, particularly among at-risk populations. 📋 Guideline Complexity: GPs face confusion due to overlapping guidelines from NICE and the Prostate Cancer Risk Management Programme, contributing to regional variations in care. Recommendations from the report underscore the necessity for: • Clinical guidance from NHSE on risk stratification that is essential to ensure high-risk populations can be diagnosed quickly and moved to treatment • Bolder, large-scale public awareness campaigns co-created with communities promoting informed decision making about the PSA test to remove barriers to testing and reach men at higher risk and people living in areas of deprivation • Clear, consistent, regularly reviewed and updated guidelines on PSA testing for all GPs to ensure eligible men are not turned away • Appropriately trained healthcare professionals to support patients through the care pathway Dr Simon Wyatt, our Senior Medical Advisor for Oncology at Bayer UK, joined a panel discussion at the launch conference with medical professionals, patient organisation representatives and health system experts where he elaborated on how the industry could contribute to help reform prostate cancer care pathways and tackle the backlog by offering on-the-ground experience, insights and data. Fayez El-Shakfeh, Head of Patient Access, Bayer UK & Ireland, said: “Our sincere thanks to all involved in the development of this report. At Bayer, addressing inequalities is not just a priority; it’s a commitment we take seriously. We are dedicated to collaborating with the broader prostate cancer care community to drive meaningful change for all men affected by prostate cancer." #ProstateCancerCare #HealthInequalities #AddressingHealthInequalities #MensHealth #BayerUKI Photo Credit: Politics Home

💡Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. This is why, alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Bayer UK, we have produced a policy report examining the regional variations in prostate cancer outcomes and made some clear recommendations to reduce the geographic inequalities. Here are our some of our main recommendations: 1️⃣ Bolder, large-scale public awareness campaigns promoting informed decision making about the PSA test must be implemented to reach men at risk from prostate cancer. These should be co - produced with communities to ensure they are more likely to gain traction and should target at-risk groups, including people living in areas of deprivation and Black men. 2️⃣ NICE and DHSC must better communicate with general practice to ensure every GP in Britain is aware of the latest PSA testing guidelines to ensure eligible men are not turned away from PSA testing. Research and innovations that improve early diagnosis in at-risk communities, that do not regularly attend healthcare facilities, are much needed to tackle health inequalities in prostate cancer outcomes. 3️⃣ Guidelines for PSA testing need to be reviewed and communicated immediately, given the reductions in harm offered by the modern diagnostic pathway. There need to be clear guidelines for GPs around PSA testing, thresholds and the change in risk to ensure GPs are not discouraging eligible men from tests. 4️⃣ Clinical guidance from NHSE on risk stratification is essential to take low-risk people out of the diagnostic pathway and ensure those with cancer can be diagnosed quickly and moved to treatment. 5️⃣ Clinical nurse specialists are key to patients through the pathway and are often in advanced roles such as performing biopsies taking them away from supporting patients. Support cannot be overlooked and there still needs to be an appropriately trained HCP in a supporting role as this is key for patients. For all of our recommendations, read the full report here👉 https://lnkd.in/dFCS79NW

🔑 Key findings from the spring #IntergratedCareDeliveryForum2024 This spring, the System Transformation theatre, in Birmingham, tackled some of the big debates in integrated care and highlighted new opportunities for wider sector reform. From the discussions on the day, we identified 3 key findings: 1️⃣ Culture eats strategy for breakfast:  Efforts to transform systems and integrate services will be redundant unless long-standing cultural barriers to transformation are addressed. 2️⃣ Scale and deliver: Systems must move away from relying on ‘roll outs’ and ‘pilot’ projects and take risks in order to embed health inequality strategy as a fundamental way of working. 3️⃣ Stick with the programme: ICSs are constantly asked to fulfil tasks outside of their four stated aims, and it is difficult to move finances in a way that truly reflects these objectives. There is a sense that centrally derived targets continue to limit the progress that ICSs are able to make. These longer-term objectives should not be seen as distinct from immediate service pressures.
