Join us for a live, online seminar at The Green Register, featuring Cosy Homes Oxfordshire’s Geordie Stewart and Natasha Ginks. They'll be sharing insights into their effective, hands-on approach to helping homeowners tackle retrofit projects. This session is ideal for anyone looking to understand how to approach energy-saving home improvements, from initial ideas to a finished, comfortable, and more sustainable home. Cosy Homes Oxfordshire has worked tirelessly since 2019 to simplify the retrofit process, creating a service that guides homeowners from planning through to completion – with benefits for contractors and installers too. As Geordie and Natasha will explain, their process revolves around ‘Whole House Plans’ designed to support long-term energy-saving goals. This not only makes homes more comfortable, with lower energy bills, but also contributes to the UK's carbon emissions targets. It’s a practical, step-by-step method that empowers homeowners to make lasting changes while aligning with the high standards of PAS 2035. The trainers will cover some critical questions homeowners face when planning retrofits, such as: >> Defining your retrofit goals, whether it’s for comfort, savings, or a better EPC rating. >> Setting a budget, estimating costs, and planning the work in phases to suit your needs. >> Choosing the right measures – should you insulate first, upgrade windows, or invest in solar PV or a heat pump? >> Finding contractors you can trust to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget. Geordie and Natasha bring a wealth of experience and an open, approachable style, making this session a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in sustainable home improvement. They’ll finish with a Q&A, offering the chance to ask your questions about retrofitting your home effectively. Make sure to book your place and find out how to make a meaningful start on your retrofit journey! Date: November 7, 2024 Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Venue: Online Registration: https://lnkd.in/eyBjuPPW Whether you’re ready to dive into a retrofit or are just beginning to explore what’s possible, this event will provide the guidance you need to start. #HomeRetrofit #EnergyEfficiency #SustainableHomes #CosyHomesOxfordshire #GreenLiving #ReduceCarbon #LowerEnergyBills #WholeHouseRetrofit #EcoHome #EPC #EnergyPerformanceCertificate

We’re not in the business of selling heat pumps – but some of our happy homeowners might just convince you to get one. At Cosy Homes Oxfordshire, we believe heat pumps are an excellent solution for tackling climate change and reducing energy costs, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle. Installing a heat pump alone won’t unlock the full potential of your home’s comfort and efficiency. Think insulation, ventilation, and more – that’s where our Whole House Approach comes in. So, is installing a heat pump worth it? Absolutely! They use less energy, lower your bills, and provide both heating and cooling. But for the best results, they need to be part of a broader plan. Check out our blog to hear from homeowners who’ve experienced the benefits of heat pumps as part of their home transformation: https://lnkd.in/g3rp7aue #EnergyEfficiency #HeatPumps #SustainableLiving #HomeComfort #WholeHouseApproach #RetrofitYourHome #ClimateAction #LowerEnergyBills #CosyHomesOxfordshire #HomeTransformation

This is a timely discussion, and the work being done by the Net Zero Terrace Streets partnership could be a game-changer. With so many poorly insulated terraced homes across the UK, it's inspiring to see a community-led, whole systems approach to retrofit, low-carbon heating, and renewable energy. By tackling these issues street-by-street, not only can we cut energy bills and improve comfort, but we can also drive lasting environmental and social benefits. Affordable, efficient energy for all should be at the heart of our transition to a cleaner future. This is definitely worth paying attention to! https://lnkd.in/ecCdXWEd
🚨 How can we quickly and affordably get millions of poorly insulated terraced homes off fossil fuels? 🚨 Imagine a world where everyone struggling in cold, damp terraces can finally enjoy warm, healthy homes with affordable energy—lower bills, cleaner air, and communities reaping the benefits of low-carbon heating, community-owned solar power, and Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES). This is the future that the Net Zero Terrace Streets (NZTS) partnership is working to create. Backed by Innovate UK, we’re taking a community-led, whole systems approach to revolutionize energy for terraced streets. Here’s what we aim to achieve: 🏠 Retrofit and insulate homes to reduce energy demand and improve comfort. ➿ Install networked ground source heat pumps connected to shared loops, delivering efficient, low-carbon heating. 🌞 Develop community-owned solar projects to generate and store renewable energy locally. ⚡ Implement a Smart Local Energy System (SLES) to manage energy use, reduce grid strain, and lower costs. 💷 No upfront costs for householders—just an affordable standing charge. 💚 Maximize community benefits, with savings or income from solar and flexibility services flowing back to local residents. Could this street-by-street approach hold the key to empowering communities and transforming neighbourhoods across the UK? 🤝 That’s exactly what these amazing NZTS partners are working together to find out: Rossendale Valley Energy – Kate Gilmartin, Louise Marix Evans, Andrew Pinches, Amaryllis Goodspeed, Hannah Kaitlin-Boyer Rossendale Borough Council – Lauren Dickens, Natalie Whitham Centre for Energy Equality – Andrew Ross, Phoebe Andrew Community Energy England – Josef Davies-Coates IoT Horizon Ltd – Dan Bradley, Niamh Allen CMgr MCMI Challoch Energy – Simon Minett, Anna Limbrey NuVision Energy – Robert Francis Kensa Heat Pumps – Chris Crookall-Fallon, Wouter Thijssen UrbanChain – Somayeh Taheri, Charlie Parry, Scott Andrew, Colin Hayward Buro Happold – Phil Proctor Deepika Banerjee Sahai Spencer West LLP – Sonya Bedford MSc MBE Abundance Investment – Karl Harder Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP 🌍 Want to learn more? Landlords: Is your property 2030-ready? Energy efficiency standards for rental properties are rising, presenting an excellent opportunity for landlords to improve their properties. As a landlord, you’re under increasing pressure to meet potential new regulations tied to the UK’s 2030 clean power goals. While the government is still consulting on proposals for all rental properties to achieve an EPC rating of C or higher by 2030, it’s wise to start preparing now. Benefits of #retrofitting: Improved #EPC rating: Properties with higher EPCs attract more tenants, have fewer vacant periods, and report significantly lower maintenance costs. Comply with future standards: Stay ahead of regulations that could restrict renting out properties that don’t meet the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES). Reduce tenant turnover and rent arrears: Retrofitting a property lowers energy bills and improves the comfort for tenants, this leads to less tenant turnover, rent arrears and vacant periods. Protect against fuel poverty: Lower fuel bills for tenants help to protect against fuel poverty, and increasing their ability to maintain the property well. Enhance property attractiveness and value: Retrofit goes hand-in-hand with refurbishment, and increases the attractiveness of your property to prospective tenants and boosting its capital value. These benefits make retrofitting a smart investment for landlords, enhancing property value, tenant satisfaction, and ensuring compliance with regulations. https://lnkd.in/ePfRiXxi

Fantastic to see Jan Rosenow shining a spotlight on the benefits of heat pumps! His commitment to reducing carbon emissions and raising awareness about sustainable heating is truly inspiring. We’re especially proud to have played a part in his home’s journey towards greater energy efficiency. A few years ago, we developed a Whole House Plan for Jan’s end-of-terrace home in East Oxford, helping to make every room comfortable, warm in winter, and cool in summer. As Jan said, “Reducing carbon emissions was our key driver for undertaking the home retrofit.” The results speak for themselves – with the home now more comfortable throughout and heating bills massivley reduced. When I'm told on social media that heat pumps don't work in old buildings I usually invite people to my 144 year old Victorian house in Oxford to see it with their own eyes. So far no one has accepted the invitation so I allow you to virtually step inside my house. Come on in! PS: I know I lost some hair and some weight since that video was shot. I would not mind getting back some hair but I don't need the extra weight.
