Check out our latest issue of #CPoIB, packed with intriguing articles that dive deep into diverse and timely topics in international business! This issue spotlights how navigating cultural, linguistic, and institutional boundaries can reshape knowledge production and corporate strategies. Huiping Xian, Yingying He, Fanke Huang and Paul Latreille, for instance, explore how language and identity shape research quality, revealing the power of embracing a flexible “in-betweener” role to gain richer insights. Meanwhile, Omar Manky Bonilla and Nattaly López tackle how Peruvian academics balance Global North influences while staying true to local contexts, offering a fresh look at the complexities faced by scholars in the Global South. At the corporate level, Ashjan baokbah and Vikrant Shirodkar show how MNEs in countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt use political connections to navigate challenging institutional landscapes, while Krzysztof Kubacki, Dr Natalia Szablewska, Dariusz Siemieniako, and Linda Brennan shine a spotlight on global value chains (GVCs), revealing the hidden risks of modern slavery and power imbalances affecting millions worldwide. Their systems-thinking approach offers a bold framework to address these pressing issues within GVCs. On a broader scale, Sergio Mariotti introduces the idea of “win-lose” globalization, where rising geopolitical tensions and protectionist policies intensify competition between nations and firms. As the global landscape shifts, multinational corporations must rethink their strategies to survive—and thrive—amidst these challenges. Professor Mehdi Boussebaa, a renowned authority in this domain, further expanded on these critical issues in his landmark paper on decolonising international business, recently published in #CPoIB (read the paper at https://lnkd.in/e9Fp9YCD). Leila Lotfi Dehkharghani, Jane Menzies, PhD, Andrea North-Samardzic, and Sarah Jane Casey tackle this question using Bandura's social cognitive theory (SCT) to uncover the forces behind women’s silence and how their agency can break it. Is DEI truly transforming international business, or falling short on addressing deep-rooted inequalities? Anastas Vangeli highlights the clash between DEI’s social justice origins and its watered-down, profit-driven form in multinational corporations. Despite its benefits, DEI’s impact on structural inequality is limited. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, Vangeli calls for a stronger commitment to social justice to drive real change in global business.
