Behind the scenes in the maltings. First stage: steeping. 🌱💧 The first stage of creating the perfect malt is steeping. The process begins by selecting a batch of our high-quality barley, which is then hydrated through up to three immersions in fresh water. During this process, we carefully adjust the timing and temperatures of the wet and dry stages, depending on the type, maturity of the barley, and the specific malt we're aiming for. We are working with our grower groups for the third year running to collect on-farm GHG emissions via Map of Ag. Our grower groups are advantageous in baselining our GHG emissions data, and facilitates a faster adoption of our sustainable farming strategy. We focus on nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) as a key metric with Map of Ag, to allow the growers to use the tool in decision-making around farm inputs. 🍻 Brew Day Highlights! 🍻 We're thrilled to share the results of an epic collaboration between Human Robot Brewery, Schilling Brewery, and us at Crisp Malt! Together, we created a lager that’s tasting incredible—and a huge shoutout to Hana Malt for playing a key role. 🌾 Andrew Foss from Human Robot put it best: "The beer is tasting great! Crisp Hana malt was the perfect malt for this beer. A fresh hay-like flavor carries through, making a bright flavor in a dark beer. Even with the adjunct, the beer retains a nice round mouthfeel that you can’t achieve with more modern, overly modified malts." The brew day was filled with excitement as the team cooked up a storm in Philly, incorporating sweet ingredients like Flaked Torrefied Maize and 25kg of Dark Sugar Syrup! 🇸🇪 This time last week, the Crisp team were in Gothenburg, Sweden, for a seminar with local brewers, at the awesome Vega Bryggeri AB. Organised by the team at Caldic Brew Nordic, and joined by our friends at Charles Faram & Co Ltd and Lallemand Brewing, we shared all the exciting things about our heritage malts and torrefied products.
